OK, I usually don't write reviews, but this one definitely warranted one for those of you looking for a good study guide. I haven't done any real math in a few years, so I decided to buy this to prep for my content area test. While it does cover just about every competency area for the test (albeit briefly), I constantly found errors (both grammatical and mathematical) while going through the book and its practice problems. It's really defeating when you're trying to relearn a concept and the reviewer (i.e. the study guide) is making mistakes. The flow of the book is also distracting - it's organized by sections, but within those sections it just jumps from one topic to another without any sort of warning or subheading. I also found the explanations of the solutions to problems to be very sparse and unhelpful.

In its defense, I will say it has an 80-question test that is great practice. And for those who really just need a brief refresher, the guide will certainly provide that (just make sure to check your math!). So, definitely take a look at this before you buy it (if possible) to see if it's for you. You may do better spending $50 on a good used high school textbook or two.

I used this to pass the Illinois Math test. No review book will teach you everything you need to know. This guide, the internet and some old text books are all you need. I have been out of school for 25 years and the guide gave me great insight into what I needed to study. I felt well prepared for the test.
