Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Takes a practical, hands-on approach by presenting mathematics by showing applications of the material that is relevant to many trade vocations. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Back Cover

This easy-to-understand, hands-on guide covers the practical mathematical skills used on a daily basis in a wide variety of trade and technical vocations - such as electronics, auto mechanics, construction trades, air conditioning, machine technology, welding, and drafting. Making learning the subject an enjoyable venture, it integrates real-life applications throughout - with many keyed to specific trades and technical occupations - and provides a wealth of problems to ensure mastery of the material. Clearly explains the fundamental concepts of algebra, geometry and trigonometry and uses a light, conversational style of writing and a pleasant visual approach that helps take the "fear" out of learning math. Provides step-by-step guidance through each concept or calculation, with lucid explanations and ample opportunity for practice. Discusses percent problems and proportions, and includes simplified examples and problems in solid and plane applied geometry. Closes each section with an extensive set of practice problems (identified by the career to which it is applicable), and places calculator displays adjacent to the worked example problems.

This is one of my favorite math books to date. It is a wonderful resource to teach from. I hope its use will increase over time, and more like it will be written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!, September 6, 2008

Actually, I was referring to the 7th edition, but I have no doubt that the 8th edition is superb as well. This series of books breaks down problems in an easy to understand format. Includes pre-algebra, algebra, quadratic equations, trig, and 3D geometry. For someone that had never taken algebra before, I managed a 4.0 GPA with this book.
