Product Description

Interesting light from the U.K. The Mathmos Aduki light has a unique shape and moves through a variety of colors. The light starts on blue and moves gradually through a spectrum of pinks and violet shades to reds and then starts again. A silicon button on the base of Aduki enables you to turn the light on/off, or to freeze on any color that you like. The light is named after a bean used in ceremonial dishes in Japan and China. The Aduki also has a tiny face on the underside adding to its unique appearance. The polished zinc alloy base gives the Aduki weight and solidity, and a sense of quality. It comes with AC adaptor charger, which is plugged in overnight and provides up to 6 hours of light, perfect for a full evening of entertainment. The Aduki uses high quality internal batteries which will give you between 750 and 1000 charges. Some features of the Aduki are:

I have the second generation model of this, the Aduki Ni, which I recommend over this model because the Aduki Ni also looks a metal sculpture when turned off. Anyway, this is a nifty decorative item that people are certain to ask about. It can be used inside or out, and includes a strap to hang it from a tree or whatever. The light generated by this isn't sufficient to use as illumination, but it definitely adds color to a scene and looks pretty bright in a darkened environment. The effect can also be seen with indoor lighting, in which case it looks like it's just changing color like a chameleon.

On the downside, it must be kept charged. Not only does it take several hours to charge (18 hours out of the box) but there are strong warnings against letting it run down to zero. I don't know what happens in that case, but apparently it's not something you can just leave on and forget about. I have had mine on for a little over three hours continuously though without it running down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware - when this product fails it can't be repaired, November 25, 2008
This review is from: Mathmos Aduki (Electronics)
I was given mine as a gift. It worked for a while, but as mentioned in another review, the instructions for charging and recharging are fussy and need to be followed to the letter. When mine within weeks ceased to be rechargable any longer, I contacted the store, manufacturer, [...] and no one would stand behind this. Have lots of fun with it for the 30-60 days that it is likely to work properly.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mathmos Aduki (Electronics)
This is an absolutely darling looking light. It feels great in the hands and looks lovely as decoration. It's wonderfully designed and manufactured- quality materials and packaging. Be aware that this is really quite small. It's roughly the size of a 6 pack carton of eggs. It doesn't really kick out enough light to illuminate a room. You would want to pair this with candles or some other form of light if you want to have any chance of seeing what you are doing. The light can also flicker during transitions, which can be quite annoying if it is right next to you. Despite all that though, I still love it- I suppose it is a bit like the Ipod- good styling overcomes small flaws.
