April 2000
When an enormous bequest is left to St. Martha's College, the dons split into three factions: the Virgins, the Dykes and the Old Women. As the factions fight over how to spend the money, one of the Virgins is found dead. Once again, Robert Amiss finds himself with a murder investigation...

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile

St. Martha's, Ruth Dudley Edwards's fictional women's college, is the sort of second-rate establishment that the male academics have always looked down on. Now the college is faced with a major bequest, and the dons are in open warfare concerning how the money is to be used. As usual, our protagonist Robert Amiss arrives just in time for the bodies to start falling. Ruth Dudley Edwards writes some of the cleverest and funniest murder mysteries around, and this book is no exception. Narrator Bill Wallis deals wonderfully with the mayhem. He delivers up the three main groups involved: the Virgins (scholars), the Dykes (women's studies group), and the Old Ladies (all of whom are male) brilliantly. And his pacing keeps us in suspense.
