Kids love it! But im finding problems... lots.... of problems...
on April 29, 2013
I bought this for my 5 year old brother, i thought it would be the perfect gift for him since he's always on my phone, and well... he LOVES it, he absolutely loves using it all the time. It can't download more than about 3 games at a time without freezing, but its fine if you download two at a time, it runs games pretty well, maybe not to lets say an ipads capability, but its great for him since he's 5.
The only problem i have it that it wont charge. The battery is very, finicky. Sometimes it charges, other times it doesnt. and i also have NO IDEA how to tell if its charging. there's no light, no sign or message, i either get a battery with an exclamation warning on it, or get a red battery picture. none of which tell me if its being charged. I'm not sure if its the device, or the charger. so im going to look into a new charger. but the top of the tablet looks a little out of place, like there's a gap between the top of the camera and outer plastic that i can fit a toothpick in. so im not sure, but that could be causing the issue because the charger is on top. The battery life when it does charge is pretty good. Also connecting it to a computer via USB does NOT charge the unit :/
8 days after my previous review, i am having to take a star away. I figured out it was NOT a charger issue, it was a device issue, and after looking into it i found that the gap in the plastic may be the issue, i have angle the cord into the charging slot, like rather than inset it straight, i have to tilt it maybe 30 degrees left and then find a way to hold it there for a charge. Battery still lasts fine.
Another problem i found is that out of nowhere, the screen got an unresponsive strip on it. What i mean is, when you are looking at the tablet, the bottom where the home button is, go about an inch above that, and the entire strip, from the far left, to far right wont respond to taps. it doesnt work for the entire length of the tablet, and its about half inch thick. it looks the same, seems, feels, sounds, the same, but for some reason wont work. no matter how soft, hard, or persistently you press. This is a problem for games like fruit ninja when you have to cut there, but its mainly a problem because when you want to hit the confirm installation button for new apps, the strip covers it, and you have to tilt the tablet to get the confirm out of the strip.

My brother finally dropped it. now, he dropped it from a recliner chair, to the carpet ground, not more than 2 feet, and... the screen and case came apart. like, completely. You could hold the screen in one hand, and the color, case part in another. The wires were all still connected and lights on, but completely apart. I was sitting on the couch with him on the recliner when i saw him accidentally drop it, no force involved, not slamming, or stepping, he had it on the arm, and when he rocked, it fell. A completely innocent drop, a drop that brought him to tears as his favorite toy was now broken forever in his eyes. The power button, and volume buttons completely deattached. Now, since all the cords where still in tact, i was able to place the buttons back into place, move all the cords, and there were 3 or 4 straps of what seemed like camera film attached between the two pieces which i managed to finagle back into place. The only issue is, the screen wont completely click back into place. Two of the corners clicked into place, along with the sides. So that leaves two corners, opposite corners i might add, that wont click back. i checked and none of the parts where broken, but they wont attach. You can click it into place, but it unclicks itself immediately. This is a little irritating. On the bright side, the toothpick hole near the camera got fixed when it fell apart and i fixed it.
Overall, based on what ive experienced, i do not recommend this product. even if it takes an extra two weeks, just buy a more expensive Samsung tablet. i would rather have paid triple, for a tablet 10x better. This is a decent tablet, it runs decently, it just gives you exactly, if not less, than what you paid for.
Take it from me, buy a more expensive tablet. I realize this may be "suitably cheap" for kids, but the first drop, if you're lucky, second drop will result in a bad experience, and for a child like my brother, its devastating for them to break their favorite toy, especially from something as stupid as a 2 foot drop.
EDIT**** its been about 3 months now, and its compoletely nonfunctional. The charger stopped working a little over a month ago, we bought a new charger, same thing. its not the cord that unstable, its the actual tablet. we switched to the other port to charge it, the one meant for usb connection, and when we plugged it in, it caved in, becoming unusable, and the other port wont charge. no matter how much you bend twist and turn, nothing. Dont buy it.
