* a mechanical-sounding knock instead of a cheesy electronic chirp;
* a volume control (and an earphone); and * a dial (rather than a cheap electronic press-spot) for setting the tempo. The switch you see at top right selects the mode: off, metronome, or reference pitch. I consider it useless as a tuner; for that I use the Boss TU-80 ($29), which I consider useless as a metronome. :-) The switch at top left selects the downbeat: it can sound a chime on every other beat, every 3rd beat, et cetera, up to every 6th beat, and it can be set to no downbeat so it just goes tick-tick-tick... It's made out of cheap plastic, but thick enough that it won't fall apart. (I've dropped mine a couple of times.) It has a wire stand so it will stand up on a table top. I know other musicians who also have this unit; one is branded Wittner but it is otherwise identical to mine. (I suspect they're all made in the same place, but who cares.)

Pros:
-Very loud AND adjustible volume -Clear reference tones: B2-C6 (useful for choirs) -Simplistic design: Rotating dial and beat selector switch (instead of buttons) -Headphone terminal (earbuds included with metronome) -Bright LED pendulum -Metallic stand -Powered by 9V battery Cons: None! Other thoughts: -Could use a new design -Should come with a case

Received the Matrix MR-600 Metronome quickly. Works well and is exactly what we expected. Great product that our Piano Teacher recommended.Love that you can control the volume and that it has the ear plug option. Would recommend!

I'm a guitar student. My instructor uses and recommends the Matrix MR-500 Quartz Metronome. However, in searching for that item I came across the Matrix MR-600 Metronome. This product is incredible! The most useful feature for me is the volume control. It goes from "quietly practicing late at night" to "I can easily hear it over my jam session". You can even turn the sound all the way off and just use the LED, though I admit I prefer to have the sound on.
The downbeat chime is also nice. I've found that setting it to "2" (every other beat) and then doubling the tempo setting works well for practicing eighth-notes in 4/4 time. I tend to get ahead of the beat, so that helps a lot. As with the other Matrix models, adjusting the tempo is quick and easy. If you're looking for the perfect metronome, you can stop now - you've found it!

I liked the sound quality of the MR-600, and easy set up of the beat/tempo thru the dial. One major flaw is the dial tend to be easy to break. On the first couple of weeks of use, my 5-year old daughter dropped it to the floor and the dial just broke off and cracked on the base. I could not re-attach it back. I'v been trying to find the dial replacement on line but to no avail.
