Hard to find by itself., August 21, 2011
This review is from: Matrix Revolutions [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This is basically the third movie disc of the Ultimate Matrix set. I had that set on dvd and didn't want to upgrade the whole thing to blu-ray, but I did want to at least have the movies by themselves on blu-ray. My wish came true when Wal Mart started selling 'The Matrix' and 'Matrix Reloaded' in what was basically their bargain bins. They were the movies with ALL the features on them for 10 or 8 dollars - something like that. Upgrades. So I waited and waited to see if 'Matrix Revolutions' would be sold that way - but no - it never appeared. It was like it was stuck in that train station that Neo is stuck in, in this movie. So I paid the 20-25 bucks from one of the other sellers to get it before it disappeared entirely from retailers. THIS IS a Canadian disc, by the way, so it might act a little weird when your player gets it but if your firmware is up-to-date then it should still play. For whatever reason they must have simply decided not to sell this movie by itself in the States so if you find it by itself from one of the other retailers, it's a Canadian disc and that may be why the price is a little higher. They ARE coming out in the U.S. with this on a double movie blu-ray disc in September '11 along with 'Matrix Reloaded' and THAT disc may show up in bargain bins at the big boxes but I don't think it'll have the extra features on it. Some little complications you have to go through if you're trying to collect these by themselves on blu-ray.

An end to something we will never see again, November 20, 2011
This review is from: Matrix Revolutions [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I loved the Matrix trilogy. I think it is a landmark in movie making evolution, and we will never see anything like it again. The last fight between Smith and Neo I'm sure were inspired by Dragonball z, but thats ok because I love Dragonball z. I gave it four stars, because it seemed like by the time they got to the last movie they realized they bit off more than they could chew and just wanted to get it over with, but they wanted to go out with a bang, even if the world thought it would make no sense. But, I love you for the Matrix Wachowski Brothers. I know ya'll are still reaping the benifits from the trilogy, but I for one am interested to see what else is on your mind.

A Great Finale After A Muddled Middle, September 1, 2008
After being so disappointed/confused with "The Matrix Reloaded" after seeing it in the theater in 2003, I didn't even see this film on the big screen when it came out, instead renting it once it came out on home video. After viewing, I realized that I missed the wrong Matrix film to skip for a long period of time.
Whereas "Revolutions" does not come close to the first film in duplicating the originality of the idea, it superbly triumphs the sub-par second film by eliminating much of the philosophical mumbo-jumbo and instead focus on a plot that the average viewer has a chance to understand.
Essentially, two things happen during the course of this film (I liken it to the Lord of the Rings series, where Frodo/Sam do their thing while the rest of Middle Earth fights Sauron): First, the city of Zion braces for (and eventually does engage) the approach machine army. The special effects in the war scenes are pretty incredible...not anything we haven't seen before, but not even as close to as faky as those in "Reloaded". The other plotline sees Neo and Trinity traveling deep into the heart of Machine City, where Neo ultimately has his final confrontation with the seemingly unstoppably Agent Smith. That final showdown is so intense (and so awaited) that it will raise the hairs on the back of your neck!
Overall, then, this film falls somewhere in between the originality of the first installment of the trilogy and the over-the-top sequel. Upon the conclusion of "Revolutions", I (and I consider myself to be an above-average viewer of science fiction) was still a bit confused as to what had exactly transpired, but not the utter sense of confusion I felt after viewing "Reloaded". Instead, "Revolutions" prompted me to check out what people were saying on the Internet, and eventually I did grasp the fundamental concept of what had happened.
So, if you were extremely disappointed by "Reloaded" and vowed to never view another Matrix film ever again, I strongly suggest that you give this one a try, as it completes the story of Neo in way that you can understand (even if it MAY take a little extra help from Internet scribes!).
