5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor Extender
It's very important to read the directions before you start -- especially important to set the resolution to 1024x768 before you plug anything in or install any software. Once configured correctly, works perfect! We're using it to support 3 monitors -- (1) laptop, (2) external #1, (3) external #2 -- excellent!

I love it because it lets me add 2 additional 19" monitors to my laptop and that makes work so much better!

Slight annoyance on webpages with flash or video (youtube especially) where I get flickering on the 19" monitors...but I think that is because I use the highest resolution & my laptop is an ancient Compaq Presario 2100 which is way past end of life!

GET THIS PRODUCT if you want an inexpensive expansion solution!

I needed to add a couple of monitors to my desk for work flow requirements and after buying and installing this product I was very happy that it was so easy to install and configure. That's not always the case in the computer field. Good product and does just what it promises.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, price a little high, November 21, 2011
This review is from: Matrox Dual Head 2 Go ROHS Compliant USB Powered D2G-A2A-IF (Personal Computers)
This module works well with a setup that has a laptop with docking station. The installation and setup is fairly straight forward, and the end result was what I was hoping for. However, in retrospect I think the price was a bit high.

Will not work with an HP docking station. Can't find any support. Looks like it was a waste of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for "Mirroring" a display to a 3rd monitor or HDTV, October 7, 2011

Great for "mirroring" a desktop computer's display to another LCD or HDTV.

Some clients had 2 LCDs on their desktop computers. In an extended desktop viewing arrangement.

For meeting purposes they installed wall mounted 40 inch 1080p HDTVs capable of 1280 x 1024 resolution.
The TVs had a VGA input.
Now they wanted to essentially have 3 monitors connected to their computer, in an extended desktop arrangement PLUS the HDTV would have to "mirror" one of their displays.

Their desktop LCDs were set up side by side. Their right-hand display is what they wanted to "mirror" over to the HDTV. So when they had meetings in their office, whatever was showing on their desktop's right hand LCD would also be displayed on the wall mounted HDTV (so everyone in the room could follow along).

(Prior to my arrival, some wannabe engineer had installed a pci express video card with 3 outputs: VGA, DVI and HDMI, but could not get it to display 3 outputs. They reported that every time they tried to enable the 3rd monitor within windows, the new monitor would enable, but the monitor which was previously indentified as display 2 would disable itself. End result was only 2 of the 3 ports on their video card could simultaneously produce a display).

Not wanting to embarrass the client who tried that, I simply told them windows was the problem and that they would need a video splitter/amplifier. Something like the dualhead2go.

We reviewed their options of products in the matrox line. The dualhead2go analog (vga) was $150 and the digital edition was $250. They opted for the cheaper choice, the analog VGA edition

They ordered the dualhead2go units and I came back when the dualhead2go units arrived.

I simply connected the the dualhead2go unit to a vga output of their video card, which was the source for their 2nd LCD, then connected a vga cable from one of the unit's outputs and fed it back to their 2nd desktop LCD. Then I connected their HDTV to the unit, using a 50 foot vga cable.

They now had their HDTV on the wall displaying the same data that their right hand desktop LCD was displaying.

The client was happy and could now hold meetings in their office.
They could display spreadsheets, power point presentations, etc, for the entire group to see.

Note: if using to "mirror" a display with a 1080p HDTV that is capable of 1280x1024 resolution, be sure to connect the desktop display to the dualhead2go unit first, then connect the HDTV.
Whenever I connected the HDTV first, windows would detect it as a
720p (1280x768) and the 2nd, right hand desktop LCD's resolution would be changed to 1280x768, making the viewing screen almost unreadable.
Also, I could never get windows to change to 1280x1024 for either display.

If the dualhead2go unit was given a 1280x1024 desktop LCD input first, windows would detect the resolution as 1280x1024 and then the HDTV could be hooked up and it's 1280x1024 resolution would work correctly.

I bought 4 of these for my staff and they have definately improved productivity. Dual monitor setup is the way to go, no more flicking back and forth. Setup for a bit tricky, and we needed to get new software from Matrox - but once installed these are great units! Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY - ONE THAT DOES THE TRICK, July 21, 2011

This review is from: Matrox Dual Head 2 Go ROHS Compliant USB Powered D2G-A2A-IF (Personal Computers)
My set up:

Windows XP laptop in a docking station.
2 Dell monitors, 19inchish

Had an annoying time find something that would let me close my laptop lid and use the 2 monitors as one big monitor (primary + desktop space extended onto the second.

Worked like a charm. Didn't give me monitor #1 and monitor #2 BUT allowed a resolution of 2048X768 aka super wide. Allows me to do exactly what I wanted - stuff off to the side (movie, email, etc.) while I work in the primary monitor.

Installation was easy however I could not use the docking station's USB port - had to be off the laptop. Called tech support and they nailed it quick.

GREAT PRODUCT.
