5.0 out of 5 stars Matt Cusson's Music is Magical..., January 15, 2009
This review is from: Matt Cusson (MP3 Download)
It has been a LONG WAIT to get a "Matt Cusson" cd, but it was definitely worth it! I, too, have been a MySpace friend of Matt's for 3 years (he was probably one of my first friends lol) and I have seen him a few times... always with Javier (yes, ANOTHER great artist!!! I usually refer to the two of them as the "Dynamic Duo"), and the voice that he has is simply amazing!

Matt's self-titled cd is a work of art and every song on it makes me feel good inside. His remake of "Could" by Brian McKnight is soooo beautiful, as well as John Mayer's "Comfortable." "Once Upon a Time" is such a great song... it makes me feel happy inside and think of how important family is. EVERY SONG on the album is going to touch YOU as it did me! It's "feel good" music... it's soul, jazz, r+b... I can't wait 'til his next cd drops! LOL

So if you're looking for music that moves you and looking to hear an artist who has got one set of amazing pipes (and he plays the keyboard, too!)... then get this cd... MATT CUSSON by Matt Cusson. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!, December 31, 2008
This review is from: Matt Cusson (MP3 Download)
I have known Matt for a couple of years now through myspace. From the first time I heard his voice I was hooked. He is an amazing singer but also an amazing person. Down to earth. He always seems to find a way to keep in touch with his fans, even though he is crazy busy with creating his album, playing keys with Brian McKnight, making time for friends and family. I am proud to say that I knew him before the fame! I am also proud his dreams are coming true it couldn't be happening to a nicer guy. Once upon a time pulls my heart strings everytime. I have a daughter that it describes perfectly. If you are looking for something new and fresh you have found it with Matt. His voice is just AMAZING! Keep making music Matt, the people of today need a voice like yours.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUSIC THAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!!!!, December 12, 2008
This review is from: Matt Cusson (MP3 Download)
I first heard Matt sing and saw him perform live at a Javier (another great musician/singer/songwriter) concert in 2006, and from that time, I was hooked. Many fans have been eagerly waiting for Matt's Debut album to come out, and it's HERE!!! It's finally here, and I LOVE it!

I'm not surprised because this man SUPER talented, and his voice is like "butta", and he plays the "keys", and guitar so beautifully. Listening to this new music is so refreshing - it's so genuine, soulful and rich with many flavors - my type of music. If you are true blue John Mayer fan, check out Matt's version of the song Comfortable. BUTTA!!! I love the song "Every Step", I think one is going to be one of my favorite, it's a beautiful mid-tempo tune...and Same Ol Song featuring Javier is The BOMB!!!! They make a great team.

This CD is like drinking a nice cup of hot cocoa on cold winter afternoon. The songs give me a nice cozy feeling. The kind of CD I would put on when I randomly decide to go on a scenic drive on a crisp autumn afternoon.

I know I'm using all kinds of metaphors and junk, but honestly, this CD is very inspirational, and pure. This is the only way I can describe it. You don't hear music like this very much nowadayz. Once again, it's very refreshing.

This CD is Brian Mcknight, John Mayer, Kenny Loggins, Javier, Duncan Sheik, Shai, Take 6, Babyface, Bobby Caldwell, and Donny Hathaway all mixed in one. Go and Buy it today! Google Matt, he's grrrrrrrrrrreat!

If you love warm feel good music marinated with the flavor of soul. Then I totally recommend this CD.

As a female, I just throw this on my iTunes, close my eyes, and pretend my boyfriend has magically morphed into Matt Cusson.

Seriously, his voice is beyond amazing. His songs are original, melodic and free of autotune!

Male or female, any true fan of music MUST own this album.

This review is from: Matt Cusson (Audio CD)
I found out about Matt Cusson from a random Youtube search, and when I heard a minute long clip of him doing a jazz/r+b cover of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are", I was floored and had to hear more. This led me to finding his CD on amazon, and due to other positive reviews, bought it that day. This is one of the best purchases I have made in 2010; Matt Cusson's piano chops are a fusion of jazz, r+b, funk and pop/rock ballads, and his playing is simply gorgeous. Like Stevie Wonder (I'd imagine he is a huge influence) and other cream of the crop R+B artists, Matt Cusson has that ability that only great R+B artists possess: the ability to fuse complex jazz voicings and ever-changing, interesting rhythmic ideas into their tunes in a way that is accessible, while still having great hooks, catchy melodies, and strong songwriting material. His piano chops are cool, confident, and professional; his vocals are smooth and effortless.

If you crossed Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, Rahsaan Patterson, Robin Thicke and 60's jazz piano together all in one, you'd get an idea of Cusson's sound. This CD will likely have huge cross-genre appeal. Can't recommend it highly enough, and I'm excited to see what Cusson has in store for us with his next album.

Songs I'd start out with:
-Comfortable - A jazzy cover of an early John Mayer song most people are not aware of; there is some gorgeous Take 6 / Queen / Jellyfish like vocal harmony in the middle of this song that is very impressive.
-Heaven - Smooth, sexy, funky neo-soul sound with some great changes throughout the song.
-One of Those Nights - Gorgeously sung jazz ballad; guitars/drums/keys are mellow and provide a great backdrop.
-Like a Lover - A Stevie Wonder-like piano ballad; really highlights Cusson's vocal ability, the intensity builds as the song continues.
-Take Me Along - Again a great fusion of jazzy + pop...even has a little flamenco-y feel in the middle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long time coming!, October 27, 2009
This review is from: Matt Cusson (MP3 Download)
I have been a loyal listener and fan of Matt Cusson for quite awhile through myspace, and I must say this album was worth the wait! All the songs you've grown to cherish are included on this album, and I just wish him great success.

My personal favorites include, "Comfortable," and "You Don't Have to Hurry Home." I followed his career on myspace and his touring with Brian McKnight. Since I'm not a music critic or reviewer, I'm only going to write this review from the perspective of a fan.

If you like music that stays true to it's artistry and tells vivid, personable stories than this is the album for you. I love the art of storytelling and Cusson has proven that storytelling is not a dying art form. Kudos to you Matt Cusson!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! Matt is amazing!, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Matt Cusson (Audio CD)
I am lucky enough to have "known" Matt from MySpace for several years, I remember back when an album was a "someday soon" thing for him. I am SO happy for him and for me now that I finally get to have him right here at home all the time!

Matt has a voice that is even more amazing than I realized. He has a range that blows me away, and can be soulful, sexy, jazzy....all at the same time. Such talent. He is going to be HUGE and I am proud I can say "I knew him when".

I hope to see him in concert as soon as he gets back to Florida!

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Music!, December 9, 2008
This review is from: Matt Cusson (MP3 Download)
It's about TIME! Real melodies, harmonies, etc. Props to Matt Cusson for staying true to himself. I'm a big fan of Brian McKnight and styles that are similar. I encourage any music lovers of true vocals and instrumentation to buy this album and support artists like this. The only thing I would have changed would be to keep the original version of "Comfortable" without the background vocals and perhaps keep "Could" a solo throughout instead of a duet. BUY IT! ENJOY IT!
