Matt Monro was a singer who never gave a bad performance on record with this compilation of romantic ballads bringing some prime sides to the fore. WHEN I FALL IN LOVE rates almost as great as Nat's while Matt is way ahead on THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, AUTUMN LEAVES, THE SHADOW OF YOUR SMILE, MORE and I'M GLAD THERE IS YOU which vocally shine above many other versions. PORTRAIT OF MY LOVE and SOFTLY AS I LEAVE YOU are forever Matt's own signature love songs but the less-known TILL THEN MY LOVE, ONCE IN EVERY LONG AND LONELY WHILE and BE MY LADY are also smooth vocal gems to be cherished as supreme love songs. They may be off the beaten track but project the essence of Matt's understanding of lyrics, tenderly applied and totally delivered to fit the emotional heartbeat of every listener.

This aptly named collection will make the perfect gift - better in fact than the short life span of roses or candies - and will give lasting pleasure the whole year through and then some.

Matt Monro had a way of vocalizing like Frank Sinatra. There was no mistaking his voice when listening to one of his recordings.Unfortunately, he left this world too soon. Like Nat King Cole, a personal demon destroyed his health and shortened his life. What a talent!

I always believed that Matt Monro had one of the greatest voices of his time. This cd is representative of his beautiful voice.
