Product Description

Amazon.com

The object: try not to lose your marbles. A long-time favorite, Ker-Plunk takes a steady hand, as you skillfully remove the sticks from the marble-filled tube. A clear plastic tube is filled with marbles, which are supported by crisscrossing sticks inserted through the tube. Each player takes a turn removing a stick from the tube, trying to dislodge as few marbles as possible. As the game progresses and fewer sticks remain, it gets harder to keep the marbles from going ker-plunk! Play continues until all the marbles have fallen. The player with the fewest marbles in his compartment wins! For two to four players. --Alison Golder

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed January 25, 2002

Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
When I got Kerplunk home and opened the box, I was dumbfounded. The game was this little plastic thing made from cheap materials. As a kid, we had Kerplunk and it was much taller and wider. It was made of a heavier plastic, too. You could be extra careful when you removed the straws because the whole thing was solid and wouldn't budge. The new one is so little, you have to hold it with one hand while you pull the straw, making it difficult to move carefully. I think this is the same type of problem parents are having with retro games. The toy manufacturers know the parent will say, "I had this game when I was a kid, so I'll buy it for my kid!" Unfortunately, the new versions are smaller, cheaper and more fragile. If the original version of a game is what is desired, then a parent will have to buy an old game from Ebay. This is actually a cool game, just not the new version.

1.0 out of 5 stars Expecting fun, got none! January 18, 2002
By A Customer
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I was so looking forward to playing this with my kids. I have a 9 and 3yr. old, big age difference and hard to find games that we can all play, so I thought Kerplunk would be perfect. The older one would have fun and it was something the little one could play without having to stop and have mommy read the card to tell her what to do next. Boy was I wrong. First of all while trying to put the thing together, where the top and bottom were suppose to fit perfectly together, they didn't, the sticks that are suppose to go through the tiny holes couldn't because the top and bottom would not stay on right and some of the holes were closed up. The sticks were also really flimsy as was the two big top and bottom pieces. I remember when I was younger and played it wasn't this soft plastic, it was hard and durable. In the end we tried to play, the first time after the second stick was pulled all the marbles fell out so I never even got the chance to play. The second and last time we tried the top fell completely off! Maybe, I just picked the wrong box but I won't try to convince myself of it by buying another one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Family Game January 9, 2005
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
We purchased this game for our children for Christmas, and it has quickly become one of their favorites. Two to four people can play, so the children can play by themselves, or we can play with them. The set up is fairly quick, but my main disappointment with the game is the sticks which are placed through the holes in the tube. It takes a long time to put all of the sticks in, and they are somewhat flimsy and can be bent or broken fairly easily. They also tend to fall out of the holes without being removed by one of the players.

Overall, this is a fun game. Our children enjoy counting each other's marbles to see who has won or lost. Beware of the marbles and sharp sticks if you have smaller children, as the marbles are a severe choking hazard, and the sticks could poke a child. If you can make it through the long set-up stage, the actual playing of the game is very fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars choose the tried & true!
can't go wrong with the 'old' toys - was told 'this is more fun than video games' - kids don't always want electronics!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sticks too flimsy
The sticks are so flimsy that it is too frustrating to set the game up to play. It takes much longer to set up than to play. Not worth it for my six-year-old and three-year-old.
