I was eager to play the game I spent hours as a child playing with my own boy, only to find that this inexpensive piece of plastic is not the same game. It is much smaller (both the unit and the beanbags), and extremely light weight. Unlike the game made in the 70s, the rollers have a hard time "rolling" because of their flimsy weight, and the overall size is so small you have to be very close or very accurate to play. I am sure it will get some use, but I doubt this version will attract the followers that the origional did.

Toss Across is a classic toy. We purchased this toy because we remembered playing it when we were kids... and I think I'm enjoying it more now than I did twenty years ago. Because it's a mix of skill and luck, anybody can win (kids can beat adults), but it's still a great toy to bet on.I only wish it held together a little better... the little plastic wedges that are used to hold the support bars tight tend to fall out pretty often (we've already lost one). However...we could always replace the whole thing.

I am purchasing my second Toss Across...The first one was purchased in the 1970's. I loved it as a child and love it as a mother....This toy adds a physical component to the old Tic Tac Toe game, making it more challenging plus it gets kids off the couch!! Buy it for your children but be sure to play with them!

I wish I had read the other reviews before purchasing this toy. This version of Toss Across is just not the same as the one I enjoyed as a kid. The game and beanbags are smaller and it's geared more toward playing on a table rather than on the floor. The worst part for us is that once put together, it is too big to fit back in the box. It might be able to be taken apart and then put back in but that would be a huge hassle. This makes it more difficult to store neatly and guarantees some lost beanbags.

This is a great toy. My kids have had a ball with it. It's very simple to do, even smaller kids can play.
Great Game!

What happened?,

This was one of our children's favorite games and we adults enjoyed it too. I was so disappointed to see that it has been made smaller and thus more difficult to score as in the 'old days.' If it ain't broke don't fix it. This toy should have been kept the original size.

Poor design,

Definitely cheaped-out, not the same substantial wood(?) game that I played in the 70s. My 8-year-old had to put it together herself, complete with sticking on the x's and o's. I think the original had the x/o carved right into the square. Anyway, it works alright, hence the two stars instead of one, but you have to be accurate and throw high/hard to keep the bean bag from just sitting on top of the square and not turning it.
Wouldn't bother, even for the memories...

We always end family night with a "Best of 5" match of Toss Across. The game is incredibly simple--yet fun. Throw the bean bags at the board and try to get three of your assigned letter (x's or o's) in row---ala Tic Tac Toe.
We actually play teams--my son (9) and my wife (not allowed to give her age) vs. my daughter (7) and I. It's a fun game where we can sit in the living room, put on music and simply enjoy each other's company while we play. As with any game, it is what you make of it. NOTE: If you are considering this vs. the electronic version, I would not recommend the electronic version (see my review on that product).
