WARNING! Does not work on water.
Get the "Pit Bull" when it comes out later next year.

It's got POWER!

First thing I noticed pulling the box out of the package is the weight, it's not a light, cheap piece at all. I LOVE the fact that they even designed the box to be like an actual toy. The sound effects are cool. The stand is a little weird, but if you keep at it you can get it to work (I find flipping it the opposite way works). It looks like it came straight out of 2015, very good details. A lot of sellers claim the mini board isn't included, but if you happen across one that comes with it it's pretty nice. The mini version comes with the handlebars, the life-size version doesn't (but who cares). All in all I'm completely satisfied with this replica and definitely recommend it.

The hoverboard. Almost every fan of the Back to the Future Trilogy [Blu-ray] has probably wanted one of these since they first saw it way back in 1989. Made famous when first seen in the movie Back to the Future Part II, where Marty McFly has to avoid Griff and his gang as they float about on levitating skateboard shaped devices as they speed about throughout Hill Valley's Town Square. Demand was made even greater due to director of the film, Robert Zemeckis, insisting in an interview around the time of the films theatrical release that they were indeed real toys, as a joke of course, yet people actually went to the toy stores after seeing the film hoping to get their hands on one. Which of course was impossible as the hoverboard is all a creation of movie magic and special effects and not much else.

In the movie the board itself was shown to be made by Mattel in the then distant future year of 2015. And so Mattel decided to make it a reality in 2012 by actually making the device that has wowed fans ever since they first made their debut on the big screen.

So is this the moment we have been waiting for? Is this the skateboard of the future now in the present for every fan and fanatic alike to finally float along the sidewalks and wow everyone? Will kids be hovering all around town now showing their great trick moves, while avoiding water covered objects all the while? Well no, not really.

As I'm sure 99% of you realize, this is actually just a collectors prop piece that is made to closely resemble the look and feel of the hoverboard from the film and not much more. And there is nothing wrong with that at all. Being a big Back to the Future fan, I myself couldn't wait to get a hold of something that is made by the actual company that advertised it in the movie and even display it proudly as if it were the real device.

The problem is the limited edition released Hoverboard prop piece by Mattel is quite expensive to obtain, being its just a collector's piece and not an actual toy to be played with. And on top of that, when one spends the high price for it, you feel a bit let down at what you do get. Don't get me wrong, its still a worthy edition to have the name Mattel and Hoverboard on it. But it is far from accurate to the one(s) we saw highlighted in the movie and definitely lacks that polish and shine one would expect if you are paying top dollar for a movie accurate piece.

Mattel let fans down with this one. Charging way too much for not enough movie accuracy. And of course I'm not talking about the fact that it doesn't actually hover, talking more about the lack of a lenticular surface as was clearly seen in the films version of the board as just a minor corner cut, as cheap stickers were used in its place. and making it such a limited edition piece, doesn't make sense. Charge less and make more. Rather than charge more and make less for something that doesn't even have the proper accuracy as expected for a collectors piece.

Its such a lost opportunity as so many have wanted to get a film accurate piece such as this for display and collection purposes. But you don't get what you pay for here. Its a good effort, and a step in the right direction and still glad I obtained it. But my huge smile was reduced to being just ok with it over all when I finally held it. It just misses the mark a bit and was not truly worth the high price charged for it. Either Mattel should go all the way and make it look as accurate as possible or don't bother. Hopefully one day they will give it another go and get it right and not over charge fans in the process if that is the case. We shall see. But buy it at your own risk as its far from movie accurate in appearance and feel.

This is my favorite Christmas gift since my Evel Kneviel Stunt Cycle in 1975! For those of you who have said the stand is useless, I suggest you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. The stand actually snaps into place on the hoverboard and works just fine.

Our son loves Michael J. Fox and ALL the Back to the Future movies. He had to have this hoverboard! We bought it for his 11th birthday. He takes it every where he goes and shows it off!

So, a while back my neurotic, crazy haired friend basically abducted my girlfriend and I and took us on a quick jaunt through space time. Not gonna rehash past (or is it future) events, but let's just say this little baby saved my bacon. Well, I later lost my hover board on another adventure, which REALLY BUMMED ME OUT.

So, you can imagine my surprise when I find one for sale online. I'm pretty sure Doc saw a way to make a quick buck, but hey, who am I to judge? I just hope it doesn't cause issues like a certain almanac did...

Anyways, I highly recommend this product, especially if you ever need to get away from some cyber bullies who believe you're your own son. A word of caution, product malfunctions over water.
