5.0 out of 5 stars little princess
We bought this chair for my daughter for her 5th b-day. The chair was a huge hit. All the little girls loved sitting on it. A perfect spot for someone to sit while opening their gifts.

The chair seems larger than it looks, it's very low to the ground. I suggest this is better for a younger child who can grow into the chair. (I just purchased my second...

Amazon had this on sale for about twenty dollars last week, so I purchased this for my own little four year old princess. She had wanted it and she definitely needed (sure) a throne, so for that price, with free shipping, it was really a good deal.

I put the throne together easily and it is and was a big hit with her. Everything works as it supposed to.

So, why not four or five stars? Well, really, this retails for about $80, and it definitely isn't worth this because the back of the chair comes unfinished. So, unless you have an actual Throne Room, where your little monarch can greet her subjects, you will occasionally-- most likely-- have the back of the chair showing. And, it is unattractive. There are about eight to ten screw heads sticking out of it, the long part of the necklace, and it's left completely unadorned. I imagine it would have cost Mattel an additional fifty cents to create a snap-on plastic plate to cover all this. And, they didn't do it.

The chair is only attractive from the front. My daughter wanted to put this upstairs and use it with her Disney Princess Vanity (that came with a little plastic stool) and now the pretty part of the chair only shows in the mirror of the vanity. It's just really ugly from the back. I am trying to decide how to cover that part, but since the screws actually stick OUT of the chair about a quarter inch (safely-- surrounded by plastic), I can't just put on some pretty decals. I'm going to have to actually do something a bit more time-consuming.

Other gripe: The chair's removeable jewelry is not so well-made. The chairs gems are really removeable bracelets, rings, earrings, necklace, and crown. They are very very cheaply made-- no better than the kids' toy store jewelry you might buy occasionally. They are not so easy to pull out of the chair and they are not so easy to snap back in. She can do it some of the time, but often needs assistance. Also, the earrings are molded kind of weirdly with two little pieces of protruding plastic that hurt anyone's ears when put on. The good part about this is that they can stay on, but they really hurt. The rings are too big (like most pretend jewelry) but the bracelets are perfectly sized.

The skirt would have been improved for both the chair and the girl had it been a bit elasticized.

From the front, this is a great little throne. With batteries, it plays a short ceremonial melody every time someone sits upon it. My daughter loves this. And, it has two little secret compartments-- under the seat (which uses a little button or key to open it) and on the arm rest (a teeny princess doll is included, but watch out! The legs break off of this immediately and you have to keep snapping them on!) The other armrest has a built in mirror.

So, my daughter really likes her throne and I like that she likes it. I am very much less unimpressed with the big huge shortcut Mattel took when making it, though.

The chair seems larger than it looks, it's very low to the ground. I suggest this is better for a younger child who can grow into the chair. (I just purchased my second one for my two year old niece. Ok to fit up to a 7 year old, also depending on weight. The quality of the chair is thick plastic. The earrings and tiara have dangling stones that fall off, so watch out. The chair opens, so you can store items inside, and the necklace is the key to open the chair.

This throne was an absolute hit at my daughter's fifth birthday party. All the girls enjoyed sitting on the throne with their wands and tiaras, taking pictures. It was the last piece of the puzzle that I was searching for for my daughter's Princess party where every girl, really felt like a princess.

My six year old got this for her birthday (from me) and she just loves it. I woke up this morning and she was already sitting in it, jewelery on, watching scooby doo. It's sturdy, adorable, and letting her find all the "secret" stuff imbeded in the back was a joy to watch. Some assembly is required, but I got it together and ready in less than twenty minutes with no swearing or calling of husband for help. I definitley recommend, though, if you give it as a gift, to have it assembled before you unviel. Definitley worth the price, can't recommend it enough.

Santa brought this to my 3.5 year old daughter and she was thrilled. Another toy I would not have paid full price for, I found it on Amazon the week prior to Christmas for $24.88. It went together nicely. However as soon as she played with it the jewelry literally fell apart. The chair is cute and the idea is great, but at $50..I would have cried. I don't feel so bad having paid $25.

4.0 out of 5 stars My niece loves it, December 25, 2007

I bought this as a christmas gift for my niece. She's 2 1/2 and in her everything must be Princess stage.
She loves the hidden compartments in the arms and seat. I do wish however that the key was made out of metal as i think soon or later the key will break. The little jewels do tend to fall off a lot and depending on how much your child will play with the jewelry, i suggest glueing them in.
The back is plain white, but i think with a little creativity and a trip to the craft store would fix the problem quickly. It's really not that big of a tragedy.
The jewels can be a bit small, so if you have a child that likes to put small objects into thier mouths, this might not be the throne for you.

It was her 2nd birthday and the theme was Princess, and that's how she looked sitting in this beautiful chair. She really liked it and did not want anyone else to sit there.
I love the price. Thank you

4.0 out of 5 stars Do You Call Your Daughter "Princess"?, December 26, 2008

If so and if your daughter is between the ages of 3 and 6, this might be the PERFECT gift; it turns out to be an astonishingly versatile toy. I was truly amazed by how much there was to it!

First, let's start with the throne itself. Six molded pieces snap together (with considerable force required) and are held in place by six Phillips-head screws. There must be some kind of upper weight limit, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Frankly, if you can fit your butt between the armrests and sit with your knees lower than your head, I think it will hold you. Three AA batteries, not included, power the (mercifully short) musical fanfare produced whenever your princess sits down, which can be switched off. Under the seat, opened by button or plastic key, is a secret compartment that can hold all the accessories. The left armrest has a recess to hold the (toy, unbreakable) mirror; the right has a compartment that hides a tiny folding throne for the included Peek-A-Boo Princess doll and doubles as a cup holder. The short tie-on throne skirt can also be tied around your princess' waist in order to turn any outfit into royal attire. In addition there is a collection of suitably royal jewelry: tiara, 2 rings, 2 shoelace clips, 2 bracelets, a pair of clip-on earrings, and a necklace with a hidden jeweled key for the under seat compartment, which when not in use, can be clipped to the throne itself at their designated attachment sites or stowed in the seat.

Defects? About the only complaint I have is that the jewelry tends to fall apart; the quality really isn't up to the clever design.

I compared this in the store with the similar but more expensive Disney Princess Magical Talking Throne but figured this to be the better bargain for all but the Disney fanatic.

Note: Alternatively there are a couple of extras containing special editions available: Barbie My Size Throne - Special Edition with LIGHT UP WAND! and Barbie My Size Throne with Bonus Dress, and there is a matching Mattel Barbie Island Princess Magical Castle Vanity available, too. Photos suggest the existence of two different colors: pink and purple, but all I've ever seen is pink.
