My daughter received this for her 5th birthday. It is cute, for sure, but the biggest drawback is the noise; it's so LOUD! I thought we could leave it on at night and have it function as both nightlight and "white noise" source. It doesn't really work in either capacity. As an end result, she only turns it on when playing in her room.

If your child can sleep through just about anything, this lamp shouldn't be a problem. But to me, it was a little too much money to spend on something we will not use a lot.

My daughter tortured us for a week (until payday), and then I bought the lamp. It is much heavier and substantial than I expected it would be. It runs on electricity--a double-edged sword to be sure.

On one hand, no batteries to keep replacing. On the other hand, danger from electrical shock and ONE MORE gadget to add to electric bill and the heap of power packs in our house. My hubby calls them "wall warts."

That aside, it is very pretty and clever. My daughter LOVES it--it was everything she thought would be. It does vibrate and is LOUD. However, when I slept with my daughter last night, the sound of the motor and the gentle "clackity-clack" of the floating doo-dads made for a very restful sleep!

CAVEAT: IF YOU FILL THE JAR WITH WATER TO THE RECOMMENDED FILL LINE & OPERATE IT PER INSTRUCTIONS, A GOOD BIT OF WATER WILL SLOP OUT ONTO THE SURFACE ON WHICH IT RESTS!!!!!! I WAS SKEEVED-OUT TO DISCOVER THIS!! NO SHOCK-BUT STILL--YIPES!!

I will pour out some water and see if this problem corrects itself. Then I'll update my review.

UPDATED REVIEW: I think the water I found around the lamp was just due to my daughter playing around. We've run the unit for hours at a time, filled to the fill-line and it doesn't leak.

My daughter loves Polly Pocket so we thought this lamp was pretty cool. It is fun to watch when it is on but it is very loud when put on a hard surface like a night table. It also vibrates so much when on that it can slowly slide its way off of a table so we put a piece of masking tape on the table behind it which prevented it from sliding. She loves it, we just wish it was a bit more quiet.
