My daughter received this for her 5th birthday. It is cute, for sure, but the biggest drawback is the noise; it's so LOUD! I thought we could leave it on at night and have it function as both nightlight and "white noise" source. It doesn't really work in either capacity. As an end result, she only turns it on when playing in her room.

If your child can sleep through just about anything, this lamp shouldn't be a problem. But to me, it was a little too much money to spend on something we will not use a lot.

My daughter tortured us for a week (until payday), and then I bought the lamp. It is much heavier and substantial than I expected it would be. It runs on electricity--a double-edged sword to be sure.

On one hand, no batteries to keep replacing. On the other hand, danger from electrical shock and ONE MORE gadget to add to electric bill and the heap of power packs in our house. My hubby calls them "wall warts."

That aside, it is very pretty and clever. My daughter LOVES it--it was everything she thought would be. It does vibrate and is LOUD. However, when I slept with my daughter last night, the sound of the motor and the gentle "clackity-clack" of the floating doo-dads made for a very restful sleep!

CAVEAT: IF YOU FILL THE JAR WITH WATER TO THE RECOMMENDED FILL LINE & OPERATE IT PER INSTRUCTIONS, A GOOD BIT OF WATER WILL SLOP OUT ONTO THE SURFACE ON WHICH IT RESTS!!!!!! I WAS SKEEVED-OUT TO DISCOVER THIS!! NO SHOCK-BUT STILL--YIPES!!

I will pour out some water and see if this problem corrects itself. Then I'll update my review.

UPDATED REVIEW: I think the water I found around the lamp was just due to my daughter playing around. We've run the unit for hours at a time, filled to the fill-line and it doesn't leak.

My daughter loves Polly Pocket so we thought this lamp was pretty cool. It is fun to watch when it is on but it is very loud when put on a hard surface like a night table. It also vibrates so much when on that it can slowly slide its way off of a table so we put a piece of masking tape on the table behind it which prevented it from sliding. She loves it, we just wish it was a bit more quiet.

MY DAUGHTER WANTED THIS LAMP FOR HER 6TH BIRTHDAY- SO SHE GOT IT. THE LAMP IS VERY CUTE BUT LOUD. IT RUNS JUST LIKE A FISH TANK PUMP (VIBRATES), SO IT CAN BE LOUD. ALSO THE LIGHT IS NOT VERY BRIGHT. COULD BE A DIM NIGHT LIGHT. DESPITE THESE FACTS MY DAUGHTER STILL ENJOYS IT AND MY 3 YEAR OLD WANTS ONE TOO.

When I saw this I thought it was fabulous and couldn't wait to share it with my daughter.

However, after plugging it in I was really disappointed. The pump that makes the bubbles is SO.LOUD. I mean it could seriously replace the white-noise machine in her bedroom. Of course it's not a pleasant white noise, but loud and vibrating. Our fishtank pump is far quieter than this is. Even placing it on a folded tea towel did not help quiet it.

If she didn't love it so much it would be going back.

It's a very cute lamp, but it's VERY NOISY! I had read the reviews and other people had said it's noisy but I didn't think it would sound like something ready for liftoff!!

My sister bought this lamp for my 4 year old daughter. It gives a nice soft glow like a night light. We don't leave it on for long because the little motor is so noisy. The motor vibrates so the lamp slowly moves. I have to be careful not to set it too close to the edge because it could fall off the dresser. But my daughter does like it. That is why we have kept it.

Even with the bad reviews, I bought this here on clearance for 4.99. Well worth it!!! Yes...it is loud. But my daughter sleeps great with it on, as a night light, and in fact I think it helps her sleep (white noise....). She even turns off the tv, and just watches the light. That was impossible before. She soo loves it, I wish I had bought 2 before the price went back up! It is so pretty, with glass marbles, little swimming pollys, and other cute stuff.

I purchased this lamp for my niece on her birthday,she loves Polly Pocket and was very excited .When she got it home and put it together they let it run and water started leaking out and running down the cord.so they took it back for an exchange brought the 2nd one home and it did the same thing and was running into the wall outlet.Please,please be very careful and watchful.

My five and three year old daughters fought over this is the store, but the three year old won and we placed it in her room as a night-light. The thing is so loud that she asked for her music to be turned up so she could hear it above the lamp. Needless to say, the lamp is only for decoration now - no one could actually sleep with it on.
