A big thrill for 48 hours,

My son received "The Mummy's Gold" as a present for his 6th birthday, and he played with it exclusively for around 24 hours before even looking at his other presents. For a solid week, he visited with the mummy every day when he came home from kindergarten. As completely, unapologetically uneducational as it is, I can see the charm of a toy that shouts "Who dares wake the Mummy?" and "I've got you now!" and "You've been mummified!" when a car rolls over an activating switch. If I had had a toy like this when I was a kid, I would probably still be telling my friends, "You've been mummified." Trouble is, there really is no game to play, no challenge, and the activator switch on the mummy's head broke a week after we got it. One month later, my son doesn't even look at the toy. So I give it an overall rating of three stars.

My 4 1/2 year old son picked this toy out himself. He was really excited until we got it home and he heard the voice of the mummy. He refuses to play with it and even wanted to take it back to the store because it scared him so much. Definitely not recommended for younger children.

I bought this for my four yr. old. The mummy doesn't always work and the buttons at the bottom are hard for him to push. He leaves it in the toy box and always goes for the haunted house instead.

No. Not the most educational toy ever but my son still enjoys playing with it from time to time. When not in use, it is a centerpiece on his bookshelf.
The toy itself is very durable and, providing the right type of vehicle is used, it does just what it is supposed to. The details are very good and the mummy's voice is scaaaaary!

My Four year Old Loves it,
This review is from: Mummy's Gold Playset (Toy)
Someone commented that their kid hardly plays with this toy after a month, but isn't that the case with a lot of kid's toys. Such is the nature of having young children. They get bored easily and want to try new things. We got this one on a great Christmas deal on Amazon for a mere $[...] and what a bargain considering it was $[...] in the stores. This playset has very little assembly required. Just put in batteries, attach the three pieces of track and you're ready to go.
Load the car off the elevator and the car is grabbed by the mummy exclaiming, "You've been mummified. Press the button to release the car and he travels down the tracks and into the pyramid where the mummy accuses the car of stealing his gold. One more button push and the car is freed out of the bottom of the pyramid. As my son is a Halloween fanatic and lover of all things scary, he really got a kick out of the mummy with the light up eyes and voice. He received a lot of toys for Christmas but has played with this one quite frequently so far. A great bargain! |
