4.0 out of 5 stars flippin' fun or flippin' frustration!!
We just gave this to our son for his 5th birthday yesterday. I suppose it could be flippin' frustrating for younger kids but our son thinks it's flippin' fun! The concept is easy, but these guys have their own agenda--they don't always stick on the tree which is when the giggling starts (or frustration). We have had Mr Mouth for years, which is a great game but...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to Flip
I bought flippin frogs for my 4 year old knowing my husband and I would be playing the game with him. Well none of us play it because it is soo hard to flip the frogs. I see great potential for this to be an adult drinking game, but I don't believe my son will have the coordination for this game until he is about 7 or 8 or older. I see great potential for this to be an adult drinking game, but I don't believe my son will have the coordination for this game until he is about 7 or 8 or older. My husband and I enjoyed being silly with it, but also had a hard time shooting the frogs. It is not for small children. Also, each player has to be a certain distance away from the game and so it is not a good table game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Short-Lived Fun, April 29, 2008

After seeing the commercials, our 4-year old didn't stop asking for this for his birthday. Before buying it, we asked other parents their opinions, and knew in advance that we'd have to figure out how to store it, since it wouldn't fit back in the box once assembled. We also knew it was a game we'd want to play with him.

After I assembled this game, our son (okay, all of us) had great fun with it for all of fifteen minutes, even though he had no success landing frogs in the tree (I didn't have much luck myself). But before the tenth time around, the sound effects quit, the tree continued to spin even after "popping up," and the smell of burnt plastic became noticeable. Mind you, the loss of sound effects bothered my son more than the rest. Folks seem to be rating the game as durable, so ours must be defective. I still can't recommend it.

I am also disappointed by Mattel's lack of internet service options, and limited calling hours.

The concept is easy, but these guys have their own agenda--they don't always stick on the tree which is when the giggling starts (or frustration). We have had Mr Mouth for years, which is a great game but Flippin' Frogs is more challenging. As far as educational, you could make an addition or subtraction game out of it and you certainly learn patience! Now to start Christmas shopping!

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money, November 29, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Flippin' Frogs Game (Toy)
This toy is a waste of money. It is even difficult for adults and older children get the frogs on the tree. Also, the plastic leaves/branches aren't very strong, we have hardly used the game because it is an exercise in frustration, and the plastic is stressed where it connects with the trunk of the tree. It is really hard to push the tree down to set the game, impossible for children. It is also very loud and there is no volume control. It is also akward and difficult to store. Don't make the mistake we did and waste your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very difficult to assemble, December 25, 2007

This game is very difficult for a child to assemble, even causing frustration for my teenagers who have spent time trying to help their younger siblings play this game. The tree pops up at the drop of a hat while trying to reset the game for play. I'm afraid this purchase was a mistake. It should be redesigned to be more kid-friendly.

This is a fun game for both children and adults. The biggest problem with the toy is that you need to press down on the top of the tree to reset the game (it makes the limbs of the tree go down and they pop up at the end of the round). When you press the top of the tree it creates preasure on the top "leafs". It takes a fair amount of preasure to reset the game and it is making weak spots (you can see white spots in where the leaf joins the "tree top") in the plastic leafs (example: when you bend colored plastic that is not meant to bend it turns a white-ish color). This is will break soon I am sure, and the game is fairly new (owned < 1 month). Mattel needs to redesign.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this until its redesigned, January 18, 2009

We got this game for our 3 kids for Christmas. Our 7 year old can flip the frogs alone, our 4 year old is getting better at it and the 2 year old just tosses his frogs into the tree. The adults enjoy playing as well. It is a very fun game, but Mattel really needs to make some changes.
1. The "push to start" feature doesn't work right and is too hard for kids. A push button on the base would have been far better.
2. You can't store it in the original box at all
3. The top of the tree is stressed and breaking (from pushing to start) already and we have only played it a handful of times (because we have a puppy who likes to eat flippin frogs)
4. The tree is VERY hard to insert into the base, expecially the first time and the tree often pops out of the base.
5. Our tree which we have had less than a month and has only been played with a handful of times has already stopped staying locked into position meaning the tree will not rotate and we have no sound anymore.
6. The launching is hard for kids in the proper age range, even something as simple as swapping the little handles to the back would make it easier for little kids.
Overall the game is fun when and if it works properly but it is not kid friendly at all and it is very poorly made.
I am also dissapointed in Mattel's lack of customer service options, you can only call during their east coast buisness hours which is very inconvient for those of us on the west coast and sitting on hold with 3 kids wanting my attention is not the highlight of my day. Its much easier to have either live online support or the option to email... something almost every other company I can think of has these days.
I do agree with some of the other reviewers though, if the game would work properly it would make an awsome drinking game for adults.

2.0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun and a lot of laughs but stopped working after 2 days, September 24, 2008

This game (although hard) was incredibly fun and hilarious. My 3 year old though most of hers missed the tree was crying laughing at trying along with brother and sister, parents and grandparents as we miss judged our aim and on a few tries were wearing someone elses frogs. So, why the bad review you ask? Two days later the tree stopped working, wouldn't spin, no sound and wouldn't pop. And yes, there were new batteries tried. Though I love the idea of this game, the durability stinks. Hope this helps you.

I bought this for my 5 year old nephew for Christmas. We were all at my mom's, and around midnight, we broke out this game on the kitchen table. It's fun for a little while (sort of repetitive after a bit), but everyone who wandered in the kitchen took a stab at it. You have to practice to get good at flipping the frog the right way, but you eventually get the aim and the pressure down. This was fun for a 5 year old boy, a 9 year old autistic boy, my parents (both in their 50's), my teen age nieces, and for me (i'm th 30 year old aunt) : ) We played with this for an hour or two, and my sister says they still play with it on occasion. I'd say half the frogs are gone, tho ~ there's no way to store them. We used a ziploc bag, but they should include a case or something.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much fun I am buying another one!, November 5, 2008

My grandsons in Denver introduced me to this game and every time I go visit we have to play it! For all of you who have played a board game with younger children and were bored to tears before they finally took their turn or someone won, this is the game for you. It is very fast paced and each game leaves you wanting to play another one!

My grandsons are 8, 6, and 4. We find it works best if I have the 4 year old on my lap and he does the flipping while I load the frogs and aim. The older boys are able to play with no help at all.

Their tree also shows signs of cracking at the top where they originally were pushing down on it but now they grab the trunk of the tree and push down.

I have so much fun playing this game with my grandsons that I am purchasing one for my grandaughters for Christmas. I highly recommend this game if you are ready for a quick fast paced game that gets over quickly so you can play as long as you want, or as little as you want.
