Beautiful doll, beautiful horse, but the doll cannot sit on the horse. Maybe it is my fault for assuming she could? Anyway, do not expect any interaction in that arena.(Ha Ha)My 4 year old was disappointed and therefore so was I.

I think this series has been changed since it first came out. I've seen in the stores the horse and princess sets. On the back they have photographed the girls sitting side saddle on the horses along with a small photo on the front of the box with the princess sitting side saddle on the horse. Now on the box that this set came in it has the same photos BUT the small photo on the front they have erased one of the princesses feet and have added a small bubble that says something like 'can sit on horse.' And this doll (from pretendtimetoys) can actually straddle the horse. I have noticed on the $60.00 Jasmin horse and doll set that same bubble on the box.

We've had no problem with our Belle "riding" on the horse, but I think it depends on what you mean by "riding". The doll has special hip joints that allow the doll to sit nicely in the saddle on the horse. But if the child wants to actually have the princess on a moving horse, they might have to hold one of the legs against the horse as they move the horse.
The gems that come with the horse are attached to the mane or tail with velcro. They easily come off and children tend not to keep them on. Also the tinsel in the horse's hair, although beautiful, makes it really hard to brush. Belle's hair will lose it's style after the crown is taken out and put back in several times. Her hair is also hard to brush because there is a lot of it and it tends to tangle a bit. I restyled her hair and it looks much better. My daughter (3) likes this set and overall, I'm glad I got it.
