5.0 out of 5 stars So Cool!
This is so cool! I have never seen anything like this. The girls move from room to room and you interact with them. The 6 little rooms are decorated with tons of tiny dollhouse furnishings. It has games and all kinds of cool stuff. It even connects to your i-Pod!! The little figures are so cute - comes with one, and you can buy more. My daughter had to beg my wife...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not working out of the box
I bought this product for my 10 year old. It worked in the demo mode. When we opened the box and installed the roomie it still did not work out of demo mode. We tried new batteries and reset the system several times to no avail. After inspecting and looking at a friends, I noticed the little plug in for the roomies were not there on hers like they were on the others...

4.0 out of 5 stars How to add Roomies for Free, August 9, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

I bought this game for my nice who likes it very much. I find some of the games a little odd, and am not sure exactly what it is teaching our kids, but clearly it is engaging and entertaining. The game is all about a bunch of girls sharing a house. The house mother(?) is built into the game and it comes with one 'rommie' that you plug in. There are four more rommies that you can purchase and plug in to add more interaction to the game. I could not find the rommies anywhere... so figured out how to add them myself for free. At about $10-$15 each, the only only thing that the store bought roomies do other than look cool is fit their feet into a socket in the machine. I took a hearty match stick (not from a book of matches, but the stick kind), cut it to length for each roomie socket, and wedged them into each roomie socket. You will see a small tab on one edge of each roomie socket that needs to be pushed over to activate the roomie. The match stick keeps the tab pressed, just like the real roomie would do and the rommie will appear in the game. There, that just saved you about $60 and made this game much more entertaining. Hope this helps.
Enjoy.

My daughter is not really into dolls or typical toys. She only asked for laptop, a Wii, more Webkinz or Pixel Chix Roomies for her 9th birthday. Thus, we bought her the roomies house. I really didn't know much about it before we bought it and I still don't. She was able to take it out of the box and play it without any help or direction. She loves it. It's portable and great for the car (with headphones.) There is also a volume control because those roomies can get loud.

The toy comes with 1 roomie and you MUST buy more so that they can interact within the house. Without at least 1 extra room mate, it a very lonely and not so fun toy. Each roomie has a different personality, Hip Hop, Book Worm, Beauty Queen and Rocker. We have them all but they all don't fit in to house at one time, so you don't need to have them all.

We ended up buying the extra roomies for about $6-10 each at Target/Walmart stores as they were not available at amazon.

She is able to link this house up with her other pixel chix toys as well as her friends pixel chix toys. So she can play with it alone or with other friends and they all have fun.

Amazon had the roomies house for $44.99--less than any other store (online or brick and mortar) with free shipping, too.

This was a successful 9th birthday gift for my daughter.

After inspecting and looking at a friends, I noticed the little plug in for the roomies were not there on hers like they were on the others. I returned it to the store with no problem, torn box and all. I feel this would be a fun idea, she decided to buy a ds game instead of returning it.

4.0 out of 5 stars My nieces seem to like it enough, January 5, 2008

I hadn't even heard of Pixel Chix or their Roomies House before my nieces (yes, both of them) told me this was what they wanted for Christmas. Their wish is usually my command and so I ordered one for each of them. They seem happy enough with the toy but my sister now has the unenviable task of marking each piece of each toy to avoid any confusion if anyone's pieces go missing. Ah, the joys of parenting.

At any rate, I asked the older of my two nieces, aged 11, to write me a brief review for Amazon and these are her exact words. She agreed with me that we should give the item four stars overall, as she has one quibble as you'll see:

"I like the Pixel Chix Roomies because of the fun of rivalry because all the roomies argue and bicker with each other! But it's also fun to watch them cooperate and work together. The hard part is that sometimes they don't really turn off when you want them to and to get another Pixel Chix in the game you've got to buy a roomies pal piece. I think it's really cool how each one has a different style and favorite food too."

And there you have it. I asked for brief and that's exactly what she gave me. Bless her. They're happy though and so I'm happy. You can't say much fairer than that.

My daughter loves Pixel Chix and we have bought a few of the single Pixel Chix and had no problems, at this time we have purchased 3 Pixel Chix Roomies and the first 2 didnt work after a few days, I didnt bother to try and return, we had thrown away all boxes and wrapping, so we purchased a third, so far so good. I wouldnt reccommend buying though. Nothing against the seller, shipment was great, price was great, but product is not one that works for very long.

Side note: The extra roomies are expensive

3.0 out of 5 stars Roomies Wanted, January 8, 2009

My daughter wanted this thing for months, ever since her grandmother bought a Roomie thinking that she had the apartment. I ordered one from amazon and was so dissappointed when it didn't work even after i changed the batteries i returned and ordered another to get it two days before christmas. It didn't work either, it was stuck in demo mode!!! Until i looked at the back and saw a little piece of paper still stuck in the demo slot next to the reset hole, i just stuck one of the million little wires we had from open toys and swiped it back and forth. FIXED! Happy Daughter. I just wish i could find the roomies in the store. But i suspect this toy has had some problems and it not going to be available for long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Toy Very Cool, July 1, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

Okay, when we first opened the box, we experienced the problem that others indicated with it shutting off. When I opened the battery compartment I noticed that the off brand battery that comes with it - one battery kept popping out/coming loose. So first, we replaced the batteries with energizer batteries. However, the problem did not go away. After investigating the product more. I noticed that it had a spot for a pull tab with no pull tab (I thought), but the pull tab had actually been broken off in the toy. I was able to take a knife with a sharp point & carefully remove the broken piece of the pull tab. Since that the item has worked great! The game only shuts off after it sets for a while not being played with. Maybe this review may shed some light on the mystery of the game not working. My kids love this game! The roomies house & roomies are really cute & fun! My kids can't wait to collect all the roomies.

I've bought 2 of these in the past for my daughter. The first one lasted about 3 months. Then the computer chip inside went haywire and the little virtual roomies kind of went crazy. This was a few years ago, and my daughter at the time was only 6 so this scared her quite a bit when the unit broke. It would turn on in the middle of the night by itself and the little roomies would start repeating the same phrases over and over. After checking for battery issues and finding nothing wrong I threw it out.

Six months later, and my daughter being then 7 years old at the time, she wanted another one. She was a little older and understood it was just a broken toy, not something scary. I bought another one and that one only lasted 3 weeks before it started acting the same as the last one. The roomies would only show up half way or sometimes not at all. They are digital on the screen, so if something goes wrong inside, the unit is toast.

Considering my daughter didn't hardly even play with these, they broke awful quickly. Even when they were working, she only played with them for a few minutes at a time, so they didn't see much use. Seems a lot of money to put into a toy that appears to be wired very cheaply inside. Disappointed in Mattel, but this appears to be the trend now for these kinds of toys. They just don't make anything last as long as it did in the past.
