Mattel Speed Racer Helmet

I was browsing the local shops when I saw this beauty in the clearance aisle. Someone had ripped the box apart, and the sounds weren't loud, and lucky me- it was discounted a few bucks!

I immediately grabbed the helmet and took off for the checkout lane. Unfortunately the sounds started going off and I didn't know at the time that there was a button to turn them off. Sadly, society doesn't understand what it means to have a passion for speed racing.

Oh Well!

I instantly went to my car, placed it on, made sure that the sounds were making the VROOM noises so I didn't have to, and drove around town. Now I don't know if it is exactly legal, so I tend to take the helmet off while passing cops. Everyone else gets the full effect of the helmet.

So far I've only had one person hysterically laugh and stare while driving. I look to better this number with a long future with this helmet.

+ GPS navigation

Will report back once this baby is pimped.

All I can say is that when the 6 year old opened the box, he was blown away.

He loves it - this is the main thing he asked for his birthday - rides his bike with the helmet on - lots of time for great imagination!

A gift for my son for christmas and I couldn't figure out the scowl he'd have on his face everytime he put on the helmet - he was "acting serious" just like Speed and Racer X! Completely got into character right away. The helmet is really too big for a kindergartner, but he should have it for a few years. I anticipate it will last that long as it seems to be of good quality. I believe the recordings might be from the original cartoon as they have a "vintage" quality to them, but no one seems to mind. It's a hit!

The 5 year old we bought this for was shaking when he opened the box and saw what it was.

This helmet really needs a strap of some kind so it stays in place on your child's head, not so fun when he's trying to run around playing Speed Racer and has to keep a hand on the helmet to keep it on.

Bought this toy for my nephews Christmas present. When we opened the box, we immeadiately noticed the poor overall condition of the toy. It looked like it had been sitting on a shelf for years, they didn't even bother to dust it off. The box was ripped in several places and the helmet was scratched all over. At this point you could say we were already disappointed. Obviously the helmet functioned ok because someone had already removed the plastic strip from the battery compartment and turned it on, so it was already making noise when the UPS man delivered it. We the proceeded to figure oout why it had a three position power switch that would only move to two of the positions. My husband tried reading the instructions, but the only version included in the box was in spanish. Regardless, my six-year old nephew has enjoyed the toy. Overall it is probably a good product, but this experience with Amazon has been lackluster at best!
