I tried to talk my son out of spending his birthday money on this toy but he HAD to have it. I tried on convice him it was made of cheap plastic and would be broken within a day. Well I was wrong and he reminds me I was wrong everytime he plays with it(Daily). This toy is a hit and I like that it has a volume control. I got my finger stuck in the skull trying to remove an ovesized car that got stuck. It didn't hurt because all the pieces are blunt and the kids have never gotten thier finger pinched. The noises it makes did scare my 2 year old at first but now he also loves this toy and helping his big brother play.

I love the way Matchbox is designing more products with young kids in mind. These neat little themed playsets are meant to be played with rather than stored away by collector's only. Not that I have anything against collecting. But I still like it when toy makers keep kids in mind as well as collectors. Matchbox has been doing that with these great playsets. I first got the Haunted House one for my sone and now this Pirates Buried Treasure playset.
Kids will love the spooky atmosphere with chilling sounds and lights as the cars pass through the skull island trees and lagoon. Great even for your little imaginext figures even. And for Collectors, I personally think these make wonderfull frightful dioramas for display. The sets are all well built, and work very well and are durable. Comes with a pirate SUV and playmat. Well made toy and very fun for kids.

My whole family LOVES this toy! My son picked it out to buy with his own money (and thanks to BK for the $3 coupon!) and all my kids (age 2, 3 1/2 and 5 1/2) have a blast with it! It always works like it's supposed to, unlike every Hot Wheels playset I've ever tried.
Makes cool pirate sounds - they freak the kids out just enough for them to have giggle fits every time. I love that the kids have to push levers and things to make the car go instead of it being all automatic. It makes them a real part of the action and they love it. This Christmas was our first time trying any of the playsets for cars and I wish we had gotten them sooner. They are a big hit! And this one is lots of fun. It's both the kids and MY favorite. Oh, and mine came with a playmat that they can put all the Matchbox "Hero City" playsets around (we have 4 now) and make their own little town. Very cool! I recommend this toy for any kids 3 and up.

I bought this for my 4yr for his b-day, and he loves it. Unlike the Hot Wheel's toys, it is all put together, and easy to use. You can play with it more than once, without it falling apart!!!

My 6-year old daughter purchased this with a gift card she received for her birthday, and she and her 3-year old brother absolutely love it! It's one of the few things that they enjoy playing TOGETHER. We haven't had the problem with it that others mentioned with the "finger trap". So far it's worked really well, and it was a great buy (...)

My son received this as a birthday gift from a friend.(it was on his amazon wish list) This toy is very durable and with boys being tough on toys this is worth $20! I did read the reviews about younger children getting their fingers stuck in the turning scull but we have had no problem. I suggest a 4/5/6 year old child would benefit a lot from this toy. The sound affects are cool and the play mat is a bonus!

Mattel / Matchbox cannot make these playsets fast enough for us!!! They are of the best quality. They all interconnect. They are very reasonably priced and me and my little boy LOVE them. He plays with them every day. I've recommended them to all of my friends who have boys in his age group and even to mommies at the store that I see looking at them. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius !! And thanks for the coupon through the Burger King promotion !!

My twin sons were so excited to get this toy, given their enthusiasm for pirates. However, the fun turned to tears quickly when they tried to push the car into the pirates skull and it snapped closed like a mouse trap on their fingers.
I tried it, and it even hurt my hand. Keep away from kids younger than five or six, or don't buy at all.

Finger trap,

I cannot believe that I didn't see a single review about the trap that this toy is. I got this toy for my son who is 3 years old. He keeps watching the commercials on tv and decided to get it. As soon as I got it out of the box he started playing with it and no more than 5 minutes later got the first scary moment. He was scraming because his fingers got trapped on the skull. The toy works this way: On the left side of the toy, there is a "elevator" for the car. Whe this car gets to the top, the child is supposed to turn the skull toward the elevator for the car to get in. Sometimes the car does not go all the way inside the skull and the child has to push it in with his fingers. Well, when the car touches the opposite wall of the skull, the skull itself turns very fast toward the front of the toy. The fingers of the child then get trapped between the skull and somekind of bars. I was very scared because for a moment I didn't know which way to turn the head to release my child's fingers.
I know children love this toy but as a parent I would not recommended. I bought one to give as a gift for a friend, and there is no way I am going to do so. Both boxes are going to be returned to the store A.S.A.P.

My son loves this toy. He has not "trapped" his finger in the skull like I have read in other reviews. I can see how it could happen though. It only has two removable parts, so less to lose. He can put the pieces together himself and uses the playmat even more than the toy itself. We have a lot of these car playsets and this one is one of the best.
