Tanner has an embarassing problem,

My daughter LOVES this toy. It was her favorite Christmas toy when she was just shy of 5 years old. She adores dogs, and this is no exception. The problem is that sometimes Tanner would get constipated and we would have to give him a paperclip enema to get the pellets out. Maybe we broke it because now Tanner has diarrhea like he ate some bad curry; the pellets go in the mouth and immediately out the backside. This was all after about 10 hours of play. A letter to the manufacturer went unanswered (I guess they were busy with the lead paint recall - ugh) Unfortunately I have to buy another one of these toys because my daughter absolutely adored it. If only Tanner could hold his poop...
This toy was also part of a recall because the pooper scooper tip can come apart, so be careful if you are buying used.

The best pet dog to clean up after!,

I bought this as a Christmas present for my 10 year old daughter who had it as one of the top things on her list. She loved it and thought it was great that she could actually "feed" the dog treats. But the best part for her was that the dog will "poop" the treats out and then you can use the pooper scooper to clean up the mess. This is so much better than cleaning up after a real dog! She thought this was the greatest, and will be playing with this toy set for a long, long time.

This set is adorable. The dog is very soft and fun to feed and teach young children the responsibility of cleaning up after a pet. You feed the pet these brown dog biscuits . Lift up his tail and out they come. The purple pooper scooper is magnetic and so are the biscuits.
Not recommended for children aged 2 and under.

I bought this barbie & dog for my 5 year old daughter for Christmas. We have a yellow lab and she was looking for a barbie pet. It's a cute dog, but it doesn't work like the directions say it should. It should open it's mouth for a treat when you press down on its tail but it doesn't. To give the dog one of the biscuits, you have to manually pry open its jaw. I also don't like that the treat box/garbage can't permanently close somehow. The treats are always being lost.

I bought this doll for a five year old for Christmas. Needless to say, every kid at the gathering under the age of 10 played with it all day (and still do)! And, it doesn't even need batteries......kids are funny.

My husband bought this for our daughter last Christmas (2006). He did not look at the age recommendations so I immediately put the small pieces in a ziplock and stored them up since our daughter was only 3 at the time. However, she loved the dog and wouldn't go anywhere w/out Tanner for at least 2 months. The leash came unsewn so I threw it out. She still plays w/it a year later. Be careful not to drop on hard floors too much. Tanner breaks in half and if the plactic pegs aren't broken, the dog can be put back together. Under supervision or w/out the small parts, this toy is a hit.

My friend's little sister got Tanner for her fifth birthday. She loves dogs and Tanner was the perfect dog for her Barbie dolls! When she got Tanner she immediately went to play with him outside. He was a lot of fun for about two weeks. Then five year old Jenny lost all the pieces. They are really small and easy to lose and I think this toy would have been better if the pieces were bigger or they came with a storage case. We lost Tanner's leash, all the pretend poo, and most of the toys! Tanner is still a lot of fun for Babie dolls. -Allie age 13Barbie Doll and Tanner - Caucasian

I bought this doll as a gift for my niece because the barbie was cute and normal (no hootchie wear) and she loves dogs. The dog is fun, but I would throw out the accessories. The fake poop is made of metal and look like brown tic tacs-- something a toddler would surely eat. Plus, many of these models (including the one I bought) were recalled because the magnet in the pooper scooper can come loose. If you can get the dolls without the other items, I would reco that...

Not all of the pooper-scoopers are recalled. Those manufactured after Jan. 31, 2007 are all right. From CPSC: "Recalled scoopers have a visible, silver-colored, disc-shaped magnet on the end of the scooper. Scoopers with a white material covering the magnet and products manufactured after January 31, 2007 are not recalled."
