5.0 out of 5 stars favorite birthday gift
This toy is lots of fun for the dinosaur lover in your family. It stands about a foot high and has 2 sensors: one on the nose and the other on it's back. The toy is programmed to do different things based on which sensors are activated. If you press the sensor on the back, it's like you are patting Screature. It sort of purrs. If you press both sensors together, it's like...

3.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced
My son really wanted the Screature after seeing it on television. Luckily he has a grandma that wanted to spend the $35 on it. It is a fun toy, but I personally wouldn't have purchased it unless it was UNDER $20. It's not worth $35.

The kids love watching it squirt water about 8 feet. It has fun sound effects and the sides puff out. It does have some...

5.0 out of 5 stars favorite birthday gift, August 5, 2009

This toy is lots of fun for the dinosaur lover in your family. It stands about a foot high and has 2 sensors: one on the nose and the other on it's back. The toy is programmed to do different things based on which sensors are activated. If you press the sensor on the back, it's like you are patting Screature. It sort of purrs. If you press both sensors together, it's like you are tickling screature and he laughs. Pressing the sensor on the nose though activites his "angry" mode. The nose sensor also detects movement near it's face so you don't actually have to touch screature to get "snapped" at. The dinosaur will also sort of rear back and unfold it's wings and spit water out. This is a fun trick on an unsuspecting friend!

The toy seems well made and easy to activate. Sensors are pretty sensitive so you don't have to press them hard to make Screature move. The dinosaur itself is stationary so it doesn't walk or jump.

The battery component and the water tank are on the bottom under the feet. The battery component is screwed in so no worries with young kids getting into batteries. The water tank is small but really easy to fill.

Great birthday gift! definitely recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun!, September 10, 2009

I got one for my shop/office, and enjoy it. A few notes:

1. When you get it, it is in a demo mode and will NOT squirt. All you have to do is to turn it completely ON (switch is on the foot) and it will increase its behaviors, go to sleep mode, squirt, etc. (I suspect some low scores came from people who did not know this.)

2. The squirting tank is pretty small, and the volume of each squirt is pretty small, but it shoots a good 10+ feet with a little force. If you use it in an office or someplace with nice clothes and lots of paper, you may want to keep the tank empty... or put up a good warning sign!

3. This is a reasonably tough toy, but it is more geared for 'tabletop play' than 'sandbox play'.

By the way- this thing just BEGS to be hacked. Voice recording/playback module (it yawns when it wakes up. I want it to play the theme from Jurassic Park!), glowing eyes, dancing to music (a Screature/iDog hybrid?) and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars The hit of the birthday party, July 24, 2009

This is a great little dinosaur! A friend got it for my son (7) a couple of months ago, and it was a lot of fun at the party. Lots of giggles as the kids put their hands in front of his mouth to make Screature snap. And when we filled him up with water, the boys went crazy trying to make him spray each other. Definitely more play with Screature than the $100 toy mom and dad got him at the same birthday. :P

I expected quick loss of interest with Screature, but two months later he's still playing with it: using the water-spitting for target practice on his action figures. There's fun a motion-sensing mode he likes to use on any unsuspecting guest who visits his room.

My only complaint is that the water container in the foot is pretty small; it's gone after about 10 sprays. But the good news there is that the spray of water is very thin, so he can use it indoors without too much mess. So maybe that's more of a feature! :)

I wanted to buy this for my 4 year old nephew - but he thought it was a little creepy. I thought it was so cute I bought it for myself and now have it on my desk at work. We have all had so much fun with it and others at work say they plan on buying one as well. Also, my nephew changed his mind about the creepy aspect once he figured out it squirted water.

The kids love watching it squirt water about 8 feet. It has fun sound effects and the sides puff out. It does have some drawbacks. The reservoir is really small. It will squirt about 6 times before needing refilled. I read prior reviews and knew that, but you don't realized how often you'll be filling it back up. It will get air bubbles and misfire quite a bit, but the kids seem to like it despite these limitations. They're both under 5 years old, and they seemed to get bored with it quickly since it only does a couple of tricks. Personally I would only buy it if it were priced under $20.

1.0 out of 5 stars Major Dissapointment!, January 8, 2010

We purchased this for our child for Christmas. It was the ONLY toy on the list. The toy was a huge hit Christmas morning for about 30 minuites...then is stopped squirting water. We tried EVERYTHING,blew out the air, filled the tank, called Mattel direct the next day...Mattel put us through a series of tasks and explained that air frequently gets into the system. Nothing we did fixed this item! Thanks Mattel, you knew there was an ongoing issue but still put this thing on the market just in time to make little kids sad for Santa!

I made the mistake of buying this for a 2 year old Dinosaur lover! The kid freaked out and was scared -- which means this is probably best for a 5 year old, not much younger (box says 4 years old). But...the adults are having a great time with it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Screature is Awesome!, March 1, 2010

This product was given as a gift to my 3 year old and 5 year old. They fell in love with it immediately and actually share it (hard to believe). The interaction between the toy and the kids is fun to watch as a parent, especially in terms of the imagination it allows my boys to develop. I thought initially they may be frightened of the noises or suddened movements, but not a problem at all. Well done!

My daughter loves this toy! We have had so much fun squirting each other with him. The only flaw is the water resevoir is not big enough and very hard to fill. I have to fill it as the kids don't have the patience to keep forcing the water in. But it is so much fun I have to fill it for them. A good toy to keep the family together and playing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Screature stopped spitting, December 26, 2009
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: SCREATURE Interactive Dinosaur (Toy)
Purchased a screature for our son for Christmas.
Set it up and started to play. For a few minutes everything worked perfectly, including the squirting/spitting function. Then, it simply stopped spitting.
We tried everything - made sure the canister was full and changed to a new battery.
The instructions have a troubleshooting section but do not mention the spitting function at all.
I see that some reviews mention a demo mode. There is no demo mode that we can see - simply an on/off function.
A disaster.
