I greatly enjoy playing board games with my children, but I am not a fan of games that do not require thinking. Some of the "first" games are games of chance, and they don't really stimulate their minds (or my mind). I like a game where the child is an active participant in the gameplay, but are simple enough for them to learn.

Blokus3D is just that sort of game. My 5 year old really enjoys playing, and he is getting close to beating me! We only play the "tower" configuration right now, and we have a great time. In addition to great game play, a lot of though was put into the game itself. Each of the 4 colors fits in its own opening in the plastic tray, and the game board fits on top. The game board has a nice rotating action to allow each turning of the emerging tower without knocking over all of the pieces.

My only complaint is that the pieces can be tough for little fingers to avoid accidentally knocking over. Perhaps if they were a bit heavier, or if their surfaces were slightly different, the tower would hold better. Otherwise, I am happy with the game and heartily recommend it.

If you like Blokus, you will probably like Blokus 3D.

After receiving this game at Christmas, we used it several times at parties.

It doesn't take too long to learn, and is a great game for adults and children to play together. You choose a template for each round, and the template determines the size and shape of the tower that can be built. The goal is to have the most blocks of your color on the uppermost levels.

It is easiest to play with the simpler templates first, and then move on to the more complex ones once your players have gotten the hang of it. As they play more games, they start to learn strategies to block their opponents and position themselves to win.

We played with a group of adults, and children down to age 5. While the 5 year old played a pretty straightforward game, I noticed that our 9 and 10 year olds were able to understand and use more subtle strategies.

One drawback, it takes a slightly steady hand. A bump in the wrong place can cause the tower to come tumbling down, and end the game prematurely. We kept thinking that some sort of magnetic design might work better.

All in all - a fun game!

My oldest son had played Blokus at a friend's house and said how fun it was. We get a new game for each of our kids for Christmas each year, so I searched for Blokus for him last year. I bought this Blokus 3D not realizing there was a difference. After playing it a few times, he told me this is even better. This has become a family favorite. We have six children ranging in age from 18 to 4. The four older than eight all enjoy this game.

From the back of the box:
1. Each player chooses a set of colored blocks. Players select a template (Tower, Corner, Steps, or Pyramid) and place it on the game board. Player 1 places a block on the board, staying within the template's boundaries.
2. Rival players must place their first bocks so that they touch at least one of their opponent's blocks and the game board.
3. Players continue placing blocks, one at a time, on the game board. As each block is placed, it must touch at least one face of the same color, but not extend beyond the structure's height limitations.
4. The game is over when all blocks have been placed or players have no more moves. The player with the most squares visible from above is the winner.

If we could only own a handful of games, this would definitely be one of them!

I found Blokus 3D to be less fun than regular Blokus. The height restrictions, in particular, were difficult to visualize, making the game run slower. This might be overcome with practice, but it lead to an initial poor impression of the game.

As the stack grows higher it gets easier to accidentally knock the pieces around, as they don't stay together terribly well.

Ultimately, its only relation to Blokus is the name and some general aesthetic considerations. If you like Blokus, you won't necessarily like this.

If you love original "2-D" Blokus, you'll likely love this, but for different reasons. The strategies are entirely different, and the resulting game is delightful in its own way. Different base boards make for different types of play.

Unlike original Blokus, it can be played with 2 or 3 players without having to have players play extra colors.

I bought it for my daughter's family. She and her husband played it over the holidays and had trouble putting it down.

Great game, that is easy to learn and fun to play. I teach and in my classroom this is one of the most popular games. The kids also love Blokus 2-d, because of the easy of the rules and the challenge of the game.

We are huge fans of regular Blokus and we were skeptical that another Blokus could be as fun. But, since it was on the big Thanksgiving sale I bought it for my 9 year old daughter. WE LOVE IT!!! It is as fun and competitive (in a good way) as Blokus, but the added challenge of the using the "spatial" part of our brains. Highly recommended. We have always choose this over Blokus since we got it!

The game has been great fun with my 8 yr old boy and 6 yr old girl. Its fun for me and the kids. I wasnt sure what to expect but am so happy with the game.

This game is a twist on the original Blokus and just as fun. The best thing about it is that it is designed to play with 2, 3 or 4 players - unlike regular Blokus. My family enjoys it!
