Wacky Words & Fun Phrases!
The hilarious bluffing game that you can’t always believe what you read. Each card lists People, Words, Initials, Movies and Laws that you’ve probably never heard of. But that’s where the fun really begins, because you get to make up an answer that’s as silly or as serious as you want. Players make up phony answers, read them off along with the correct answer, and others vote on which answer is real. You score points for guessing the correct answer or successfully bluffing the other players. Would you believe that in Fairbanks, Alaska, it was illegal to serve beverages to a moose? You better, ’cause it’s true.

Is it real or is it Balderdash?
Each player rotates being The “Dasher” (or judge). During each player’s turn as The Dasher, he/she rolls the dice which will indicate which category to select. The Dasher then reads the unknown name, initials, or phrase on the card and the other players record what they think the correct answer is on their Balderdash pads. Once everyone has submitted an answer, the Dasher reads each answer aloud, including the correct answer and players vote on which answer they believe is the actual answer. Players score points and advance on the board by guessing the correct answer, or by bluffing other players to select their answer as the correct answer. The first player to the end of the board wins! So, grab the bull by the horns and play Balderdash, the game that’s hilarious beyond belief.

I had played Balderdash many years ago in high school. I am now in college and recently I had an urge to buy this game and enjoy it once again. I have a decent number of friends of whom I play many games with on many occasions. Some of our favorites are Apples to Apples Party Box - The Game of Hilarious Comparisons and Cranium. We all have a lot of fun with these party games and have been enjoying them for years. However, I decided to try something new. This was when I remembered Balderdash.

Balderdash is a simple enough game, played with as little as two players (though I would recommend a minimum of four to really enjoy the game). The concept is as follows: A card is picked with one of five categories: Words, Initials, Movie Titles, People, and Laws. Each of these are things no one has ever heard of. Every round, one person reads the word/clue (this is the Dasher) to the others, who then do their best to write down what they think the definition/plot/etc. is. This is where everyone gets creative. You could write down a funny answer, a serious answer, or just anything. The idea is the trick everyone into voting for you. Once everyone writes down their submission, they turn in their little pieces of paper and the Dasher reads everyone's submissions to the group, randomly, with the REAL definition hidden among the rest. Everyone then votes on what they think the real one is. If you trick some people into picking your submission, you get points, which translate to moves. That's it.

The game's fun comes from the wacky submissions and the art of how you write your submissions.

I played the older version a few months ago and fell inlove with the game, it's fun and you have to be creative or at least funny and you become really good with playing just one time and it becomes really hard to tell who's bluffing.

It's a good social game and if you have intelligent friends you should try it.

Only thing is the older version had longer descriptions for all 5 options thus making more room for creativity.

Enjoy!

I played this with family members during the Thanksgiving holiday at my brother's house. At first, noone wanted to play it...mostly because it was brand new, unopened and noone wanted to read the instructions. Well I did and we were sooo glad!
This is one of the most entertaining games out there. The more people, the better! People were getting so creative with their bluffs that we couldn't stop laughing as the "dasher" read the answers out loud. We played it until 1am and had to pull it back out the next morning for another round.
I'm now buying one for my husband and I. Highly recommend it for long nights of fun with family and friends.

I purchased this for a gift for a 10 year old child, because the recommened age on amazon.com's page says 8 and up! I received the package and on the box it says for ages 12+ Adult. Hmmm, this is going to throw lots of people off. I gave it full stars, because this issue has nothing to do with the item itself, but an error on the page. Just wanted people to know.

I was introduced to this game a few years ago at a game night
with some friends in their home. It was the most fun I had had in a long time. I don't know when I laughted so much. This game takes imagination and the ability to keep a straight face while making up incredible facts. SO much fun!So easy to play!

After getting tired of waiting for another game night to be scheduled, I realized that I could simply buy one for my own, to have on hand for when freiends and family find themselves together. There is no lack of conversation once this gets going!

Highly recommended.

I loved this game as a kid and thought it would be a great educational game for my teenagers. I ordered it after looking all over for it in the stores. I saw it in a specialty shop but refused to pay $34 for it. I got it fast and much cheaper from Amazon. Great!

This is a classic game that can be played with just a dictionary. The box gives you a board, a die, and some pieces to formalize gameplay. The real product though is the cards: instead of having to select from a dictionary yourself, they've picked very interesting words and movies and people and "weird laws" to play with. This makes the game actually much more interesting and fun.

The quality of the cards is great, they are well-written and well selected, and there are tons of them. You won't get duplicates anytime soon, and by the time you do you'll probably have forgotten.

The quality of the board is just cheap, and the pieces are cheap, but that doesn't really matter. They are just a way to keep score as you play with the words and the cards. You'll also probably run out of paper pads to write down answers on, and the pads are pretty cheap quality, but that doesn't matter either: any old paper will do for this game. Once again, it's really the cards you're buying and they are great quality.

If you like word games, you should check this out. It's really quite fun.
