Introducing Troy and Gabriella
With red-and-white pants, a white jacket, and red jersey, Troy Bolton is dressed to shoot some hoops for the Wildcats. Duplicating an authentic outfit from the movie, Troy's doll-sized clothes are removable and easy for the little ones to slip on and off. His arms move smoothly at the elbow--a good thing, because Troy is not just a singer, he is also the school's star athlete. Gabriella Montez, dressed smartly in a red dress with gold jewelry, is coming out of her shell. Her dark hair is long enough for little girls to style--they can pull it back in a ponytail or even attempt a braid. However, her elbows aren't bendable and her high heels fall off at the slightest touch. Both dolls have a pushbutton on the back that plays the song clips when pressed. During the testing process, the button was accidentally pressed more than once, which caused Gabriella to sporadically break into song. With textured hair and HSM outfits, these 12-inch dolls possess an incredible likeness to the characters.

The Audition
As the dolls were brought into the testing room for an impromptu audition, it became easy to see why the musical is so popular. Breaking Free, the song sung by both Troy and Gabriella, rings in your ears long after the sound clip stops. The dolls can sing the duet together, by pressing both the buttons at the same time, or they can sing individually. Both their voices sound just like the musical and kids will enjoy belting out lyrics with the dolls. The sound clips are a little short in length, but their voices are loud and a full-length song might irritate some parents. Fitting Troy and Gabriella on their individual stages proved difficult and Gabriella lost a shoe in the process. Despite some minor drawbacks, these performers passed their audition with flying colors.

I recently purchased this set for my 10-year-old daughter. She was delighted! Unfortunately, we have been unable to figure out how to get the dolls to sing simultaneously. The direction sheet seems simple enough, but simply following the picture how-to is not adequate to ensure that the dolls will sing together. Otherwise it sounds something more like an acutal high school musical... In addition, her four-year-old brother got a hold of it and 30 seconds later Troy is a bilateral amputee at the pelvic region. These dolls are not like the ones in the era I grew up in whose legs could simply be popped back into place. Once, these dolls are broken they are fairly useless unless you have a reconstructive surgery degree from Mattel Medical School. I am still trying to figure out some way to salvage my $[...] investment with a little Super Glue, but I am not having much luck yet. If your child loves High School Musical, this is a great way to allow them to use their imagination and put on their own production. Just use great care if you have a little brother in your household.

I was kind of disappointed with this purchase. I searched around for the Troy doll for my daughter for Christmas this year and when the two dolls arrived I was so excited that she was going to have both Troy and Gabriella this year. However, when she opened them and began playing with them she wasn't as excited as I expected. I wasn't either. The dolls do sing but they do not sing together and if you don't press the buttom on their backs at the right time in sequence than the signing is completely off. Also, the tune that the two dolls sing to is completely different keys so it was a little disappointing. As far as playing with them as you would with any Barbie doll, they're great.

I got this for my 8 yr old daughter for x-mas and she loves it!! This was my first time ever ordering from Amazon.com and I didn't know what to expect! Everything went great, from ordering to getting the item in a timely manner, to the product being great.
I would recommend this product, when the dolls sing you can hear them clearly and they are just loud enough.
