Customer Reviews

I truly believe that many games help with critical thinking, recognizing patterns, and math skills.

What looks like an easy, basic game can really become quite involved - yet still says simple enough to hold the 5 yr old's attention.
Joan W. Johnson
He loves the game and asks us to play almost every day since he got the game (almost two weeks now).

When your child has outgrown Candyland and Chutes and Ladders and is ready to move on to more involved, strategic games, Blokus Junior is an excellent stepping stone for the 5 - 8 yr old age group. The more the child plays the game, the more they begin to see the benefits of planning ahead, watching their opponent's moves, etc. What looks like an easy, basic game can really become quite involved - yet still says simple enough to hold the 5 yr old's attention. Accompanying the two person game are cards that allow the child to play on his own as well, and which really take some good solid thinking to solve. I highly recommend this game for the 5 to 8 yr old group.

This game is fine but really not necessary. My 5 year old had no trouble picking up the concept and did not need the guides included. It would have been fine to just start with the original game because only 2 people can play this at a time. It is fine but I recommend checking out the regular one before buying this one. As far as a fun, quick game, this is but I don't know how long it will be enjoyed.

We own all of the other blokus games already so this is a bit bias.

First the base of the game feels...lighter than the other boards we have. I think its probably still durable, but there is a difference.

I like the game play. Its a bit easier because there are less pieces and two of every piece, but it is not easy. My husband and I tried it out without kids and we didn't get rid of all our pieces the first game.

I like the little puzzles (10) that come with the game to teach how to play.

Oh and for some reason the pieces of the regular game almost, but don't quite match this game (Incase you were wondering like my husband if you could make a larger version of duo)

The pieces are also about the same size as regular blokus, but again the quality is a little bit less. I can't quite put my finger on it, but lighter in a way.

Overall, I don't think this game is 'needed' if you have regular blokus, but it is a nice teaching tool for strategy and for non parent child games. We bought it very cheaply for our 2 year old to play with. He makes patterns and we don't have to stress to much about counting pieces (as compared to regular size, duo was too small) I don't know how much game play this will get over regular though.

I bought this game on a day my 5 year old son was sick and we were tired of watching movies. He really really likes it. I am amazed at how he plays. This game is fabulous for following directions, strategy, and spatial awareness. I like it too because it's fun to play along with him.

My only complaint is the "training cards" that come with it don't quite fit the board (they're a bit too big). But, my son didn't need the training cards because he got the hang of it quite quickly.

If you are looking for a game where your kids have to think, this is it! I'm actually not quite sure why he keeps wanting to play but I'm glad he does.

We purchased this as a reward for good behavior. The grandkids love playing the game and it encourages them to think their moves through to anticipate and plan their strategy. It results in enhancing their thinking capabilities, while they think their having fun.

My kids have always been able to play the regular Blokus game. There is no need for a Junior version. This is actually what Educational Insights sold as Travel Blokus. If you want a two-person travel game, look for the Blokus to go - the pieces snap in so you won't lose them as easily.

this is a very clever game, suitable for children and adults. I understand that there is a more complex version for adults, but this junior version is perfect for players of all ages. Each game takes only a few minutes, and I can see that it can be played with increasing sophistication as one gains experience.

I bought this for my son's 5th birthday and it's a hit with the whole family. My son enjoys puzzles and problem solving so this is right up his alley. My husband also enjoys the game so much that I'd like to get one of the adult versions.

Even my 3 (almost 4) year old enjoys playing. We take out half the pieces for her so the game play doesn't outlast her attention span ;)

The mini game cards aren't necessary for learning the game but they are useful in speeding up game play when I can't sit and play for a long time.
