Product Description

Celebrating more than 10 years on the market as the leading electronic journal for girls, Password Journal is an update of the classic journal with tons of features that tweens will love. Girls can safely store their secrets by choosing two passwords and three levels of security! This stylish electronic journal features a voice-activated lock, hidden compartment, and invisible ink pen!

Hand and Journal

Every girl's secrets are safe with this journal!
Journal and Glow Light

Girls can write in the journal with the Invisible Ink Pen and magically appear with show and glow light.
Two Passwords Plus a Secret Compartment
Every girl's private thoughts and dreams are safe with this extra-secure journal! Its sleek design features a pretty purple cover that locks automatically when closed and stays locked until the secret password is spoken. You choose the password and set it with your own voice! The same is true for the second password, which allows access to the secret compartment. Just push the button inside the journal, say the second password, and a hidden tray pops from the bottom. It's the perfect spot for storing valuables, mementos, and other things you want to keep super safe.

Girls Control the Level of Security
After setting the two passwords, girls can choose from three levels of security, based on the secrets they have hidden inside. The lowest level doesn't require a password. The next level accepts a password that is said softly or less clearly, while the top level requires perfect pronunciation. For the utmost in privacy, girls can write their thoughts with the Invisible Ink Pen, and then watch their words magically appear by using the Show/Glow light.

Jam Out While You Journal!
There's even more to this journal than meets the eye — it also has an MP3 hookup to delight your ears! Simply plug your MP3 player into the audio jack, and you can play some favorite tunes through the built-in speaker and get immersed in your own private world.

What's In The Box?
Voice-activated journal comes with Invisible Ink Pen, Show/Glow light, and spiral notebook with paper.

Girl interacting

It's the perfect journal for a cool and connected Girl Tech girl.

We let it sit for an hour and tried again and got it to work but the next day she was back frustrated, trying to get it to open.

My daughter had a traditional diary with lock and key, but her brother got into it. She bought a Password Journal to keep her thoughts extra private and has been using it ever since. It's terrific. We haven't had any problems whatsoever.

VOICE RECOGNITION

The voice recognition can be set to low (not so sensitive) to high (password must be said exactly the same way each time). It can also be turned off. We tested it; and it while it will unlock for me on the low setting, it will only unlock for her on the high setting. Her brother has been thwarted in his attempts to make it open.

The journal can be opened and the password reset, if it's forgotten or doesn't work. Insert a pin into a tiny hole on the front of the journal. Just don't show the brother how it's done!

INVISIBLE INK

There is an invisible ink pen and a black light for an added layer of security. The light does turn off after a few minutes and she keeps having to turn it back on. That doesn't bother her, though. I'm happy we won't need to worry about her leaving it on and draining the battery.

The light can also be switched to a regular light that does not reveal the invisible messages.

REPLACEABLE NOTEBOOK

The journal comes with a removable 25-page, unlined, 4"x6" spiral-bound notepad. I like the fact that it is replaceable. Otherwise, the whole toy might end up unused when the notebook is filled.

SECRET COMPARTMENT

The secret compartment that can only be accessed with the Password Journal open. It can be used to hide secret messages, jewelry or other small items.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Voice recognition was my biggest concern with this product.

I waited and waited for this journal to show up. It finally did!
I saw it on the counter and opened it at first I sorta liked it because I couldn't figure out how to reset the password to open the journal. I finally asumed it didn't have a password for that. I was writing and i hit the white button by accident and it said "Please Record Your Password" That made me feel overjoyed I put a word in it didn't work though. I pushed it again and it worked this time. This journal is very educcational it will teach your child how to speak the same thing and open a password journal, while keeping the child's thoughts away from brothers and sisters or "Intruders".
The journal has a light tucked inside it for revealing messages (luv).
There is a secret compartment. If you are having a tough time with the password just change it with the reset button or press the button between the light button and the compartment button. if you press it it will say "high" then press it again "low" again "off" if it is off then it opens automatically. High is when you have to speak exactly the same when saying your password to open up the secret compartment or the journal. It does say goodbye a lot but you get used to it, its not that annoying. Low is when you can say the password softer and not as clear but don't worry it still only opens to your voice. I would buy this again. Remember just because there is a lot of bad reviews doesn't mean it'll be bad on yours, I bought this before anyone reviewed it, and I bought it on amazon.

This product is very pretty and quite durable. The password function works well and affords our granddaughter a way to keep her thoughts safely away from her little brother. It helps that she's practicing composing and writing her thoughts without being aware that it's educational for her to do so.

Before buying this product, I read several negative reviews (mostly regarding how it worked). It worked fine for me. The only time it didn't work was in an airplane while flying (it actually worked inside the airplane during taxi). While flying I guess there was so much background noise that the device couldn't hear the passwords correctly. We pressed the reset button and opened the journal manually and then reset the passwords after the flight was over.

I thought the password journal stopped working because there had been so many reviews where people had a problem. I called Mattel. They gave me a list of things to try. Great news - I just needed new batteries. Must be the ones I installed were weak. Also, Mattel offered to send me another journal or a voucher for other product if I couldn't get it working and wanted to return it to them. Glad I didn't have to do that.

This journal has similar problems to the previous versions, apparently. That is, it has trouble recognizing the voice password, even on the "low" setting. My current theory is that if you choose a password that has some "hard" consonant sounds and long vowels, for example, "cheese", it works a little better than a password with soft consonants and short vowels, like "love".

After reading all the bad reviews about this product, I was afraid to purchase it but my grand daughter wanted it so bad...I thought maybe it would be a lesson learned for both of us if it was a piece of junk but it wasn't...she was delighted to get it as a gift on Easter and continues to use it everyday with no problems whatsoever...it was worth every penny.
