Sure to put a smile on your face with 3 different ways to play: Chatter (they speak their own language full of jibber and jabbers), Sing a Song (you control the pace of the song), and Harmonize where each Sing-a-ma-jig sings a scale in a pitch specific to that character (some high, some low). Squeeze their left hands to change modes then squeeze their tummies to see their mouths open and hear them sing and chatter! But the Sing-a-ma-jigs' favorite thing to do is harmonize! Start with 2, now 3, now 4, now add more! Start your own Sing-a-ma-jigs group today! Includes 2 “AAA” (R03) batteries. 2010 Winner of the following: Good Housekeeping Magazine "Best Toy Awards", Time Magazine "Top Ten Toys of 2010", Parenting Magazine "Toys of the Year", Parents Magazine "Top Toys of the Year". Additional Sing-a-ma-jigs sold separately, each with it's own unique look and song.

Product Description

For kids, and kids at heart, The Sing-a-ma-jigs are free-spirited, offbeat characters that set off unexpected laugher and excitement with every interaction. Their zany looks are unique to them and when they sing you can't resist when their little mouths open wide for each note. Every Sing-a-ma-jig has three modes of play where they chatter, sing their own song, or sing in harmony with their other Sing-a-ma-jig friends. In chatter mode they speak their own language full of jibber and jabbers. For their own take on musical tunes just try song mode where you control the pace of the song. But, the Sing-a-ma-jigs enjoy nothing more than singing together. In harmonizing mode each Sing-a-ma-jig sings a scale in a pitch specific to that character (some high, some low.) and will always harmonize with each other perfectly every time. The more you collect, the larger the chorus, the better they sound.

It also makes the cutest sounds.

It does not sing a cohesive sounding song - each time you press the belly a word from the song is played - you can make it as drawn out as you like.

I've given these little guys to 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 year olds and they totally love them.

The big dilemma on these, initially for me, was which ones to choose. You'll probably want more than one - since half the fun is "playing them" together so they harmonize. (Note: they harmonize singing different songs - so it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.) Anyway, below I've provided a breakdown on the various ones and why I liked this one out of those purchased.

As a pure review of the toy in general: Originally I was attracted to these for my just turned six year old niece because they reminded me of some sort of mad mash between a singing stuffed Barney dinosaur teddy bear and Mr. Bill of SNL fame. Either way, my niece, her friends, I, her parents and pretty much everyone else couldn't resist them. The three I purchased all came w/ worn down batteries that had to be replaced before they could sing the song. (I suspect an employee couldn't resist playing them at the store before they made them to us:)

Dark Purple is a fave, not only because the color has a natural appeal w/ pre-school princesses but it also can harmonizes both low and high (some are just high and some just low). The song is "My Darling Clementine" - which also oddly turned out to be a fave (given that her tastes run more towards Justin Beiber's "Baby")

Here's the other ones song choices/harmonizing options:

My six-year-old daughter and I were at another store when we first saw these. Her music teacher has some in her classroom so my daughter was familiar with them. I am late to the party on these but fell in love right away.

They are funny looking stuffed animals that in and of themselves, aren't much to look at. But when you squeeze their belly, you can't help but smile. They each have an set of 5 notes that they sing as well as a gibberish talk and a song specific to the color of the Sing-a-ma-jig.

This one sings Clementine. Granted, their singing is in a very stilted, one syllable at a time style but they are still fun to listen to. Their shirts are held on by Velcro so they can be swapped out with other Sing-a-ma-jigs.

The problem is that once you have one, they need company. They are best in groups when they can harmonize with each other. When they sing as a group, (notes, not songs) they seem to be a child's barbershop quartet of harmony. It is fun listening to how they best go together (lowest note all together or mix them up?). The choice is yours to play around and find that combination that makes them sound perfect together.

Their little terry cloth mouths open into a big 'O' when they sing showing off their little white teeth inside.

They seem like such a nothing toy but they are really the kind of thing that puts a smile on your face when you need it most.

Be sure you try playing the song all the way through (Clementine) before giving as a gift. The first I received had two of the words missing. I just received a replacement with the same defect. However, I saw these in a local store and tried them out. Some worked fine, others had the same defect. They're so much fun we're having a blast. Its too bad there's a glitch in production - otherwise this is a great toy.

My sister bought my 1 year-old grandson a yellow Sing-a-Ma-Jig for his birthday and he loves it (so do the adults)! The more you play with it, the more you find what it can do. When not played with for a while Sing-a-Ma-Jig will sign off; his yellow one says "See Ya Later" it does not matter what he is doing this always makes him laugh. I decided to get the purple one as a Christmas gift, I want to hear them harmonize together.

I purchased pink, yellow, and purple. Purple is my favorite. Each color sings a different song so keep that in mind when making your selection. The mouth moves with each note, but it is not a pinch hazard. It is very soft. I love it! It has three modes so if you child can not carry the song along it is still so much fun.

These are super cute! This is the second sing-a-ma-jig I've purchased. To be honest, they sound kind of freaky at first, but once you get used to them, they're adorable. It always makes me laugh when I hear my girls playing with them. My little one was a bit nervous at first, but she quickly got used to it. Mine came without instructions, so it took me a minute to figure out how to work it. Press the hand to change the mode (it will announce what mode it is in, though it's a bit hard to understand when it's not singing) then press the belly to make it sing. It does not sing a cohesive sounding song - each time you press the belly a word from the song is played - you can make it as drawn out as you like. This one plays "Clementine" - definately recommend!
