This dreamhouse is far more exciting than anything I owned when I was a child! My daughter is only 3 1/2 and this is her first real introduction to the Barbie world. She already loves playing with it and I know that she will continue to use it and grow in her imagination as she gets older.

That being said, this dreamhouse is very difficult to put together and not the best quality. The company recently released a youtube video that helps you with assembly, which is nice because the instructions included in the box are not sufficient. I have problems with the two elevators getting stuck in-between floors (I fixed one thanks to another video on youtube that shows you how to remedy it, but the other is still not right). They are too difficult for my child to move, a bit of a disappointment when it is one of their main selling points ("two working elevators!"). It is nice that it comes with lots of furniture and play food/accessories, but the furniture comes unassembled and doesn't exactly "snap" together as much as it just "fits" together, so the chair legs are constantly falling off. If the cost were less, I think I would be more apt to recommend it to others, but I think it's just too high based on the quality of the product.

Despite its shortcomings, I am glad that my daughter has this to play with and I think we will keep it around for quite a few years.

I received a free Barbie Dreamhouse as part of a One2One Network review campaign and all opinions are my own.

This doll house is cheaply made. The pieces arrived damage inside the box; even though the box was not damaged. Plastic retainer fastening system is terrible. Elevator shaft does not align properly without major force being applied to different areas of the house simultaneously. The side wall fastening tabs are also extremely cheap and flimsy. I would not purchase this product again, I would not return this product in hopes that it is a fluke. I would not recommend this to a friend, stranger, or enemy.

This is the ONLY thing my 9 yr old daughter wanted for Christmas. I purchased it a week ago and hid it in the garage. If I had know then what I know now; I would have opened and started assembling my purchase it immediately.

1. There are literally dozens of VERY CHEAP plastic pieces.
2. I am not dumb and have even assembled more than a few pieces from IKEA, but these instructions are useless. They are mostly pictures and any writing is in a 2 pt font. Thank GOODNESS I found an online video by doing a search for Barbie Dream House instructions video (seems I wasn't the only helpless schmoo crying after opening the box) then even after watching the video THREE times - I had to watch a video on the ELEVATOR troubleshooting tips a couple of times.

Other than the 3 million pieces and 1 million stickers, my daughter almost fainted when she found that Santa had left her "ultimate" toy and I have hopes of having the assembly completed by Easter! My daughter even commented that Santa was wrong for not putting my toy together for me.

Good luck!

We are now in our 3rd hour. Flimsy piece of plastic junk. Instructions are the worst I have ever seen to assemble anything. Thank goodness we found the YouTube video. If it were not the last night before Christmas I would send it back. Elevator works poorly. Can't really say anything positive about it.

This house is unlike anything Mattel has done before. Lots of new features, it is really cool. My 5 year old loves , loves, loves it.
Assembly was not difficult for me as I have put together MANY Mattel houses. However, I will agree that the instructions could be alot better. Just remember ,the columns all have shaped ends on the bottom that correspond with the whole you need to put it in. Like heart shaped, diamond, etc. Once you have that figured out - it is pretty easy. All my sounds work right.
Now for the con... the elevator. I am not completely sure I have it in right because the instructions for it were not that great. It does catch going up - not sure if this is a flaw or I just didn't install it right. But overall- this house is AMAZING!! And I love that the little accessories "stick" in the house. You can move them anywhere the way the house is made and they STAY in place... Major plus. Way to go Mattel. Do I think it was worth $159 (which I paid at Walmart) ? Absolutely!!

The elevator gets stuck, does not work well, lo cual es una lastima porque es muy bello. The instructions are very bad, my husband lasted 5 hours putting this toy

Maybe we got a defective unit but nothing seemed to fit right. I broke pieces off just trying to get the elevator to go to the third floor.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Assembly is easy. It arrived with the three floors folded down and bags as well as LOOSE pieces scattered throughout. On the plus side, the white teddy bear in the product photo of the sleeping area was replaced with a Marie-like kitten batting its eyelashes.

If you find any problems out of the box, contact Mattel Customer Service immediately while you are still under warranty. I find them to be kind and understanding.

Things I wished they had kept from Barbie 3-Story Dream Townhouse now price dropped to reflect runner-up status:

(1) The fireplace no longer crackles.

(2) The new elevator which saves floor space and echoes the folding Barbie MALIBU DREAMHOUSE Playset DREAM HOUSE w 40+ Pieces & ELEVATOR -TOYS"R"US Exclusive (2011) is the sort of ST:OS teleportation pod seen in the Barbie Deluxe Victorian Dreamhouse so no more putting Barbie nor the lotion in the basket. I think the string pull worked best with the basket because the cause and effect was more obvious - you're pulling up a floor here not a container. The old basket elevator connected the present to the past (dreamhouses).

The new elevator definitely sticks and it is because the edges of the floor and the elevator itself don't mesh. I basically don't consider this dollhouse to have an elevator.
