5.0 out of 5 stars Great storytelling!, June 2, 2002
By

This review is from: A Matter Of Faith (Paperback)
Jack Collins is not your normal PI and neither is his family. This is a story about both his career and his family and is told by all involved. The manner in which it is told is as much a part of the book as the story itself. Each person adds something from his/her personality and point of view to the telling of the tale. A real grabber to the last page. I like books that you don't want to put down or wonder when it will end. I want to read more about Jack Collins, his family and the adventures in their lives.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who edited this rag?, February 5, 2010
By

This review is from: A Matter Of Faith (Paperback)
I don't know which was more distracting to the story: the abundant editing, grammatical and typographical errors, or the constant, "in your face" aggressive sex. If the author wanted to write about his boyhood fantasies, he should have entered this book in some category other than "mysteries." There were many passages that contained incomplete sentences, repeated sentences, dropped words, misspellings....sheesh. Did this guy publish it himself without the help of a proof-reader? Don't bother with this book, folks. It's not worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good, complex mystery, May 27, 2003
By
B. Kernan (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Matter Of Faith (Paperback)
This is a story of the intersection of Jack Collins and his family with that of a troubled boy's. As PI Jack Collins becomes further involved in the boy's history, he discovers a series of unsolved deaths. Understanding what brought the boy to the brink turns into investigating these murders.

This is a very complex murder mystery, but it is also the story of Collins' own troubled family and how the two families' problems relate to each other.

The characters are well-fleshed out, and the plot is deep and engrossing--and challenging in its complexity. The reader must work to keep all the characters in order, but the effort is worthwhile as the plot unwinds.

I liked this book very much. I did not need to have read earlier Jack Collins novels to enjoy the story.
