Louisa May Alcott in 20th Century France,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Matter of Feeling (Hardcover)
First in a three volume series, this delightful book richly develops the warmth of family life beginning with the first few pages. The richness and warmth of the family comes through like in Little Women (not to mention that there are four daughters). After making you feel completely at home, or at least making you wish this were your home, the narrator and author, Pauline, then takes you through her struggle to leave home and face the world as an aspiring writer. All those confused feelings of breaking away, of becoming an adult, of just finding out about the world can't help but strike a chord. I found this book quite by accident when waiting for my children at the public library. For me it was like finding a Rembrandt in the attic. I want to read all of Boissard's books and plan to own at least this three book series.

"If only I had a family like this one!",
By A Customer
This review is from: A Matter of Feeling (Hardcover)
I cried when I finished this book. I didn't want it to end, because I had formed a deep attachment to the members of this family. So has everyone else I know who has read this and the other books in this series. It is the warmth, sense of belonging and nurturing, as well as the lightheartedness that makes them so special. The writer is gifted in making you feel like you are there watching everything that goes on. I found this in the library, but went to some trouble to order and purchase all Boissard's books, as I had to own them! As if OWNING the books would admit me to the exclusive circle of a very special family. Heartily recommended!
