Book Description

April 19, 2007
Spiritual medium and healer Rosemary Altea touched the lives of millions with her New York Times bestseller The Eagle and the Rose. In this classic work, Altea described how she discovered her gift, and recounted the miraculous experiences she had in her early years of connecting the living with the dead. In The Eagle and the Rose Take Flight, she shares inspiring new stories of working with her spirit guide, Grey Eagle, to help sick and troubled people heal, to help people recognize their true path in life, or to help people find peace in reuniting with departed loved ones.

Born and raised in England, from the time she was a young girl Rosemary Altea heard voices and had visions of people who had died. But feeling threatened by her mother, the young Rosemary kept silent about the strange, menacing faces she saw in the dark. In the 1970s, now in her midthirties with a ten-year-old daughter of her own, Rosemary was abandoned by her husband. Nearing rock bottom emotionally, she began to nurture her spiritual gifts. She claims it was her spirit guide Grey Eagle who advised her to publish her first book, The Eagle and the Rose. Even as the world has come to accept-even revere-people who have the ability to communicate with the dead, with various mediums gracing the bestseller list and with such television shows as The Medium and Ghost Whisperer high in the ratings, in recent years Rosemary Altea has had to struggle to realize the transformational power of her work. From defending her integrity as a medium in a vicious lawsuit to coping with the loss of a friend who was very close to her heart, now Altea brings us The Eagle and the Rose Take Flight, detailing a new chapter in her rich personal history as she recounts story after story of remarkable encounters with the spirit world-encounters that will amaze and inspire Altea's millions of fans.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Altea, a medium and healer whose best-selling The Eagle and the Rose (1995) chronicled her life, here focuses on some of her most illuminating cases as well as her personal reactions to them. Rather surprisingly, she begins with disclosures of her own struggles with loneliness and negative emotions. And although most of the stories she relates have a positive note, they also deal deeply with sadness as people try to make contact with loved ones who have died--of illness, from accidents, even as victims of terrorism on 9/11. This leads to a certain repetitiveness in tone and content, especially since several chapters center on people needing healing from deadly diseases. With the help of her spirit guide, Grey Eagle, Altea endeavors to bring hope and comfort to those who seek her help. Although guidance for readers is included in the book, those looking for instructions on developing their own psychic side will have to go elsewhere. Still, fans of shows like Medium should find this of interest. Ilene Cooper

5.0 out of 5 stars A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH offers much insight into the world of psychic perception., August 8, 2007
This review is from: A Matter of Life and Death: Remarkable True Stories of Hope and Healing (Hardcover)
Fifteen years ago the term 'medium' was barely known to the public: today the ordinary American knows it well. Psychic Rosemary Altea's A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH: REMARKABLE TRUE STORIES OF HOPE AND HEALING comes from a woman widely known as the 'voice of the spirit world' and here provides an important survey of how to spot fakes in the industry, and how to understand the spirit world. From the author's latest encounters with the spirit world, including a soldier who died in Iraq, to increased media coverage of psychics in modern times, A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH offers much insight into the world of psychic perception.

If these Remarkable True Stories are really true, it means the world is even stranger than we usually believe it to be. Which is strange indeed.

I really liked her explanation on what happened when someone committed suicide, that angels were there to meet them and comfort them. That SHOULD be true. Anyone who is miserable enough to commit suicide should be received lovingly on the other side and their healing should begin immediately. The book is about Hope and Healing and, personally, I can use all of those I can get.
