Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Tom DeRosa, as an experienced science educator and a committed creationist, has incorporated both his passions in the founding and the directing of the Creation Studies Institute, a growing national creation organization whose chief focus is education. His wealth of experience in the public school classroom, Christian school and the Homeschool markets for over 35 years has given special insights into what really works in engaging young minds. He holds a Masters Degree in Education, with the emphasis of science curriculum. He is an author and sought out enthusiastic Creation speaker who has a genuine love for the education of our next generation.

Carolyn Reeves is especially skilled at creating ways to help students develop a greater understanding of not just scientific concepts, but how these are applied within the world around us. Carolyn retired after a 30-year career as a science teacher, finished a doctoral degree in science education, and began a new venture as a writer and an educational consultant. She and her husband make their home in Oxford, MS, where they are active members of North Oxford Baptist Church. The Reeves have three children, three in-law children, and nine grandchildren.

More About the Author

Carolyn is a retired career science techer. She lives with her husband in a small town in Northern Mississippi. Their simple household of two sometimes swells during family gatherings to hotel status that requires three large tables for a sitdown meal. In between family gatherings and grandchildren events, she enjoys writing about science.

Her writings are somewhat unconventonal in that she is skeptical of Darwinian evolution and ages of billions of years. She sees strong evidence for recent worldwide catastrophic events that produced unique and unrepeatable conditions--such as trillions of fossils; massive deposits of coal, oil, and gas; and deep sedimentary layers throughout the earth.

She believes it is a disservice to students to limit historical achievements to name, date, and discovery. Although historical scientists were ordinary people, their lives were often amazing, intriguing, and of great consquence to future generations. Her writings incorporate scientific content, history of science, nature of science, and worldviews. This is done in creative ways to make science interesting, inspiring, thought-provoking, and relevant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cultivate a curious scientist!, October 28, 2010
This review is from: Matter: Its Properties and Its Changes Student Journal (Investigate the Possibilities Series) (Investigate the Possibilities: Elementary Physics) (Paperback)
This is our first year to homeschool our 11 year old son, and being a scientist myself, I wanted a hands on science curriculum, something that would let my son get out of a book and into getting "dirty". DeRosa and Reeve's Matter was a perfect choice. My son has asked more questions this year than ever before. As he is doing one experiment, he is logically asking the next questions, almost anticipating the next experiment! And the Dig Deeper activities are helping him see what real research is all about! Science is now his favorite subject. Okay, honestly, science was his favorite subject before, but now he loves it even more!!
