Book Description

Hermeneia: A Critical & Historical Commentary on the Bible October 2005
In this third and final volume on the Gospel of Matthew, Ulrich Luz completes his masterful analysis. His commentary has become acclaimed for a combination of careful analysis of the text along with detailed tracking of the history of interpretation. This volume includes the Passion narrative, and in this important section, Luz describes the importance of Matthew's Passion for art history, music history, and literature. It also includes numerous small essays on key topics. This is the one "must have" commentary on Matthew.

5.0 out of 5 stars no commentary better than this one!, January 29, 2006
This review is from: Matthew 21-28: A Commentary (Hermeneia: A Critical & Historical Commentary on the Bible) (Hardcover)
On the third volume (and last) of Luz's commentary on Matthew I can be verry short. With geat skill Luz is working out the proces of writing the Gospel of Matthew. He is 'at home' in Rabbinic writings and the jewish scources. The way he uses these scources in illuminating the passages makes this commentary in paricular my favourite. Another strong point of Luz is the working out of the history of interpretation. It sometimes shed's some light on discussions today.
If you are doubting to buy this one: don't. It's worth all the money!
