Conservative: Thorough, Scholarly, Yet Easily Understood,

This review is from: Matthew 8-15: New Testament Commentary (MacArthur New Testament Commentary Series) (Hardcover)
Good solid hermeneutics and clear presentation make this an ideal volume for the pastor, student, or serious layperson. MacArthur is not only an excellent Bible teacher, but he writes simply for popular use, yet nothing is water-down. This is a most thorough work, useful in preparing sermons, lessons, or personal growth. MacArthur interprets from a moderate dispensational viewpoint and seems to follow obejctive principle of interpretation. He brings in a generous amount of cultural and background information, as well as other Bible texts. I suggest you purchase the entire Matthew set. There is probably none finer.

Simply speaking, it's BIBLICAL!,

This review is from: Matthew 8-15: New Testament Commentary (MacArthur New Testament Commentary Series) (Hardcover)
In this day and age, Christians must decern what is right and what is wrong because there are so called "pastors" in Christian churches who mis-interpret the word of God. "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:12). To learn the true doctrine of God's word, I strongly recommend the John MacArthur Commentary series. I was very thankful for my understanding of the bible through this commentary. But always keep in mind that it is the Holy Spirit who leads you into understanding of his word, so seek him sincerely in humility. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." (Matthew 5:6)

Great Resource For Teaching,

This review is from: Matthew 8-15: New Testament Commentary (MacArthur New Testament Commentary Series) (Hardcover)
This is a great resource for anyone wanting to teach from the book of Matthew. It is not a technical commentary, in that it does not discuss the Greek grammar very closely, but it is based on solid behind-the-scenes study of the original language. Its primary value is in synthesizing the meaning of the text, bringing out the sound theology of it, and giving the preacher lots of good material for a message.

This book goes into detail about what the Scripture says and gives background information about what was going on in history during that time. It's wonderful!

The theological and spiritual content of commentary are excellent. But the quality of the binding is terrible. I gave to my pastor the four volumes of this and to my surprise the pages are loosening up just by being plated. All issues are damaged.
Shame!
