5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Superb Commentary, December 7, 2004
This review is from: Matthew, A Commentary, Vol. 1: The Churchbook, Matthew 1-12 (Hardcover)
I have the best commentaries on the Gospel both in english and spanish (name them, Davies and Allison, Ulrich Luz, Keener, Schnackenburg. Meier, Hagner etc.) and I received this 2 volume set and it is fantastic. The author is both comprehensive and simple, and he gives you glimpses that are diamonds for your sharing the gospel in a way that is both true to the Greek Text, the historical context and the church of today. To have this book is a really joy. Pray for the author who tries his best to be true to the Message of Jesus and Matthew.

5.0 out of 5 stars None Better, December 4, 2005

This review is from: Matthew, A Commentary, Vol. 1: The Churchbook, Matthew 1-12 (Hardcover)
I've read many commentaries on the gospels. Finding a commentary that is helpful for preaching and teaching is frankly, rare. Either they are too technical to be helpful to people living daily life, or too superficial to give people a sense that they have been given the word of God. Dale Bruner's Matthew commentary (both volumes) is hands down the best. Often if I am selecting a section of scripture that appears in the synoptics, I'll go with the Matthew because I know Dale Bruner's commentary will have by far the best combination of fresh insight, biblical grounding and practical reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Theological Masterpiece, December 11, 2006
This review is from: Matthew, A Commentary, Vol. 1: The Churchbook, Matthew 1-12 (Hardcover)
This commentary is indispensable to the Pastor and Biblical teacher. It's scope is different than most, unlike the hardcore technical commentaries such as ICC or WORD commentaries (both excellent), this commentary is written practically and theologically. Dr Bruner weaves the reformation, church fathers and contemporary scholars insights and helps. Dale Bruner is a marvelous writer and theologian. As I read this commentary, I cannot help but to come to emotion as I see the Christ described in such great beauty and insight.
