Wonderful book on how to mat, do ovals, french and glass mat. Then there is step by steps on how to do moldings and shadow box, platform and easel back. Tons of photos.

Book is almost useless,
By A Customer
This review is from: "Matting, Mounting and Framing Art" (Hardcover)
This is the worst how-to book I ever read. I thought it would teach me how to mount and frame a lithograph and this book does nothing but confuse the reader. After reading the book, I still don't have a clue on the proper way to frame a lithograph. And this is from a guy who fixes, designs, and builds about anything I ever tried. I need to find another book.

This review is from: "Matting, Mounting and Framing Art" (Hardcover)
I purchased this book in used condition for just a few dollars. That's the best part. I was looking for a reference book to pick up a few tips on matting after purchasing a mat cutter. After flipping thru it, it strikes me as being outdated unless you want to use basic household tools. There was some interesting information in this book, but I expect it will just collect dust on my shelf.

Excellent guide for doing your own framing,

This review is from: "Matting, Mounting and Framing Art" (Hardcover)
We decided to get this book as a guide so that we could frame a group of large photographs. The step-by-step instructions were a great help, and it seemed that every detail we needed to know to manage a successful job was covered.
We'd checked out another book at the library that we thought would help us to do this ourselves (framing is costly!), but that book, while very detailed, was confusing to learn from. It lacked the number of photos this book has, and it didn't have much to say about matting. I'm not sure why the other reviewer found this book lacking. For us, it was just what we needed. The results we gained have given us skills we can build upon, plus a lovely gallery of matted and framed art photographs. Recommended without hesitation. |
