5.0 out of 5 stars A Boat Buyers Dream (or at least a good portion of it)., April 9, 2000

I finally broke down and bought all 3 volumes...it's aninvestment, but if you are thinking about spending many times that ona boat it's a wise purchase. It saves lots of time calling brokers only to find out that the boat you thought you were interested in is not a serious candidate. There are some shortcommings, some of the drawings (fortunately only a few of the many)are apparently reproductions of old sales literature and as such have been copied so many times prior to printing that they are illegible; I would love more info, like how many were hulls were built; comments on general quality, etc. On any reprints I would hope they consolidate all 3 volumes into one with a single table of contents, the current arrangement has you going from volume to volume for data on boats from a single manufacturer. All that aside, these are great reference books and I hope Ms. Mauch keeps adding more info on her listings from existing owners or other broker's files, as well as adding more manufacturer and model listings in future printings. Finding any significant information on older boats is a mysterious and frustrating process, these 3 volumes (which are really 3 parts of what could, and probably should, be one book) are a gold mine of essential information if you're shopping for a used boat. Now if Ms. Mauch were to put these on a CD for computer access and offer it as a companion to the books that would really be great, then we could zoom in on the drawings... END

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Brokers or Buyers, December 9, 2001

This review is from: Mauch's Sailboat Guide, Vol. I (Plastic Comb)
As a Yacht Broker I bought all three volumes and find they are the best consolidated data on production and some one off sailboats. They cover 270 manufacturers and 1150 boats. It was a monumental task to compile this data and I would like to see it changed to a better format. The books are 5.5" X 8.5" and therefore some of the layouts are difficult to read. I found the mechanical data rather skimpy, ie. engines, gensets, steering. The printings were 1991,1994 & 1998. I would like to see everything on a CD-ROM so it could be run through a photo software program, printed out, and E-mailed.
