So I'll be honest here; I have a pretty dang big head. Big enough that I've had a lot of problems over the years finding a good pair of sunglasses that were comfortable to wear over long periods of times... even those that other companies claimed were designed for large heads. I'd pretty much resigned myself to not finding a really comfortable pair of quality sunglasses until I ran across a blog post where a fellow large headed guy recommended these. I figured it was worth a try at least, and ordered them.
And I couldn't be happier. This is actually my second pair (the first were lost when I left them on the roof of the car, and I had no hesitation buying them again. They are incredibly light and comfortable, fit perfectly, and the lenses are good enough that I often forget that I'm wearing them.

I've had my Ho'okipa for years now, actually I'm on my second pair. They've served me perfectly well in environments like a bright snow-covered mountain, Florida sun, and mountain biking.

The great...
* Their customer service is great. My first pair got a crack in one lens (by the nosepiece) while they were under warranty, and they were great about replacing them.
* The quality of the optics is solid. The gradient tint is one of those things that you don't notice until you try on glasses that don't have it, and I really prefer having it.
* They're lightweight, stay in place well, and fit me snugly.

Things that aren't so great...
* The case: the zipper broke pretty quickly. I've since switched to an aftermarket Oakley case, which works fine.
* They're not safety glasses: they're my favorite glasses, but if I'm working outside I can't wear them, since they're not designed to protect your eyes the way Gargoyles are.
* Similarly, the ear stems don't really work with earmuffs.
* If the sun is shining on the top edge of the lens, you get some serious glare shining in to the lens. With a hat, it's not an issue.
* They get dirty really easily.

These sunglasses are decent quality, fit well and are comfortable. However, the lens material is frankly no less vulnerable to scratching than most other lenses I've handled. I'm very particular and careful in caring for glasses in general, and these are the only glasses I've had scratched in years. Furthermore, it's about $80 total to correct any lens scratch. Maui Jim does not replace single lenses - you must get a pair. It's $60, plus a $10 service charge, plus the cost to ship them. The warranty does not cover scratches. Bottom line is that while I liked them, I will not be repairing them and will not purchase another pair of Maui Jim sunglasses.

After trying many sunglasses, Oakley, Ray Ban, dollar rack ones, etc; I have to say these are by far the best lenses. Your eyes actually feel relazed and wipe open no matter how bright it is (unless you are dumb enough to stare at the sun, of course).

it also snugly wraps around your head. I have a fat head and my girlfriend has a smaller cranium, but it wraps around and fits both comfortably and snugly. Unfortunately for me, they can come off when you are bailing out of a capsizing jetski.

These have been some of the worst optics and lenses I've ever had, and you can test it for yourself before you buy them. These glasses have an extraordinary amount of glare for this price range, and I can never get them properly clean. No matter how often, or what type of cloth (including the cleaning/storage bag it comes with), with/without water or other "special" glasses cleaning solution there is always a layer of grease on the lenses. The best I can do to clean it is make sure there aren't any built up smudge areas to make them less visible while wearing them. As for glare, there is a considerable amount of sun glint visible when wearing these outside in direct sunlight. It looks like a type of solar flare, bands of light cross the lens vertically. No other sunglasses I have do this. Here are the sunglasses I'm comparing them to (which I own and wear very often):

Tag Heuer - 400$ - polarized
Salt Optics - 400$ - polarized
Oakley - 120$ - polarized
Oakley - 300$ - non polarized
Oakley - 80$ - non polarized
Oakley - 140$ - non polarized

All of these can get clean easily, do not constantly have smudges on them, and do not have glare or solar streaks across the lenses in direct sunlight.

The Maui Jim's are very light and comfortable however, I got them to play sports (tennis) and for traveling. They work well for sports by staying put and the light weight can make you forget you're wearing them. The sun streaks are very annoying and not being able to properly clean then is intensely frustrating.

I love these sunglasses!!!!! I don't normally wear sunglasses because I find them really annoying. The nose piece on them usually hurts my nose or they don't fit my face/head properly. I do not have any of these problems while wearing these glasses. They are light weight, they fit snugly to my head and the nose piece is rubber so it doesn't hurt. I would definetly recommend them to a friend. I would also consider buying another pair of Mayor Jim sunglasses.

Overall a disappointing purchase (not bought from Amazon), not anywhere near as dark as I expected them to be or as protective from glare; there's little to tell the difference between these and a $25 pair of foster grant's I bought in Mexico. (I should perhaps add that my eyes are very sensitive to bright light, particularly bright sun at the beach, so I was specifically looking for something that would work well at the beach and the commentary on the coatings etc for these made me think they'd be a good choice, sadly they weren't.)
More problematic though is that they're very vulnerable to scratches; by no means do I treat my sunglasses badly, especially at this price point, however, I now have 2 small scratches right in the sight-line of these after just a few months of wear. My Rayban's have lasted for years without suffering scratches that affect vision like the Maui Jim's.
They are very comfortable though, and very light weight, they don't get caught in my hair when I push them up on my head and they stick well on my head without a leash (I typically have to put a leash on my Rayban's if I'm doing anything active to make sure they stay put).
So some good points and some bad but at $189 there really shouldn't be any bad.
Won't be purchasing this brand again.

My husband and I have been to TONS of glasses stores all over the place. He has tried on tons of different glasses and couldn't find ones that fit quite like his old Oakleys. These glasses fit perfect, their lenses are of great durable quality, and they are very flexible. They are polarized which is a plus. I was very happy to find these glasses on here because the price was so much lower than at the retail stores.

I bought these for my wife after buying mine at an Army Exchange on post. I have never seen anyone beat the Exchange prices for Maui Jims. Sunglass Stop blew them away. The glasses arrived ahead of time, brand new, original packaging, as advertised. What a great value and Maui Jim's best kept secret. Why would anyone pay full price for their sunglasses when they could get them from Sunglass Stop?

Love these glasses. I bought them mainly for fishing - Maui Jim polarized lenses cut the glare better than any other glasses I've ever used - but I started wearing them everywhere I go. The glasses are lightweight, the shape of the lenses fit my face nicely, and there's not a lot of light sneaking in around the edges.

I even lost my first pair (fell out of a hole in my Jacket pocket...arg!) and I like them enough to shell out another $125+ for another pair. Ebay has some good deals now and again, but if you don't buy from an "authorized" dealer, you cant access the 2-year warranty on the glasses.

***UPDATE***

After wearing these glasses for about 5 years, the lens finally broke by the nose piece. Maui Jim will replace the lenses for $60.

I still love these glasses and will probably pay to have them fixed.

My 2 biggest qualms with these shades are: 1, they are difficult to clean perfectly. The lens is attached to the frame along the top of the lens. This little ridge that is created by the frame makes it hard to clean perfectly - i.e. without Q-tips or such. BUT, I usually don't notice any marks when I'm WEARING the glasses, only when they're off my head and I'm inspecting them.

The other problem I have is that they don't stay on my head when I'm working in my garden. They stay on my head for everything else - fishing, biking, etc., but when I'm bending down repeatedly and looking down at the ground and swinging my head up, the glasses come off my head pretty easily.
