Great trumpet playing,

It goes without saying that Maurice Andre is one of the greatest trumpet players of the 20th century.
This set is a compilation of his famous recordings that span his career. Unfortunately, my linear notes are only in French but that doesn't not detract from the music. The first CD contains classical works (such as the infamous Brandenburg Concerto No. 2) and the second CD contains Jazz works. (This is a guess because I can't read the linear notes but) the Jazz tracts seem to involve little improvisation, much like Jazz by the Canadian Brass. I do not see anything wrong with this, but Jazz purists might. Overall, this is a really enjoyable compilation. My only complaint is it doesn't always contain all movements to a concerto (such as the Haydn). |
