I picked up this disjointed piece of dreck at the local library booksale. (If nobody checks out a book for more than two or three years, they don't keep it. Now I know why.) Turns out it was a total waste of my 25 cents. Mr. Thomas "uncovers" conspiratorial "connections" which would only be plausible to an intellectually-challenged, unmedicated...

Kenn has carefully researched previous "facts" about the Maury Island UFO incident and has, in some areas, corrected the historical mis-record; he has shed new light on the mysterious main characters, especially the chameleon-like Fred Lee Crisman. What emerges is a fascinating retro look at one of ufology's earliest jump-starters, with numerous sidetracks into the murky world of government security agencies, the mafia, and Jim Garrison's (in) famous JFK assassination probe. Backing up his investigation, Kenn has provided a generous, detailed appendix documenting much of the seemingly incredible aspects of both the story and the intriguing main players. Although the author appears to lean in the direction of UFO's possibly being highly advanced secret aircraft, ET proponents would be foolish to overlook the ramifications suggested here. What emerges is a chilling dissection of the complex, phantom machinations of the human hierarchy and, particularly, the psyche of those "soldiers" sent into the field to carry them out against the "enemy" -- the masses. This is not just another UFO book, drearily recounting tread-worn sighting reports, or screaming that space aliens are inter-breeding with us. We don't need to be alien hybrids to be a weird, darkly dangerous species; a few chapters of Kenn's work is proof enough for virtually anyone. I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Availability of this book is about to drop/Puh-leeze lie*, February 23, 2004

I have received word that the remaining print run of Maury Island UFO was destroyed by the widow of the publisher, who wanted to deplete the stock and close the business. I am sending out this heads up to tell potential readers that this might mean an escalation in the price of the book before too long. One of my previous books, The Octopus, typically sells for $100 these days. So get 'em while they're cheap!

* I would apologize too readers of the "Puh-leeze" review on this page, but who can apologize for all the children out there with a computer to play on? I would like to correct an impression left by one of the reviewer's lies, though: none of my books has been pubilshed by a vanity or on-demand press.

I found this book to be very fascinating and readily kept my attention. He has researched well and although reaches no specific conclusions, does indeed raise several premises that are not as hypothetical as they may seem. Having dealt with intelligence factors since VietNam, to take on the arrogance of a certain reviewer concerning Ken's work and hide behind anonymity reveals a great deal about the reviewer.Ken's work is an asset to his name, and I applaud him for daring to be forthright concerning his possible speculations. As to the reviewer, you had better come out of your hiding place if you think "they" are not watching. I worked with an agency that could literally monitor any call being placed in the world at any time.Ken has kicked the toe of a giant! Unfortunately, it is the people who are sleeping, not the giant!

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, December 23, 2002
This review is from: Maury Island UFO: The Crisman Conspiracy (Paperback)
This book was actually published by IllumiNet Press, not Last Gasp of San Francisco, as Amazon.com's page indicates. Amazon.com's correction form does not include a category to correct publisher information, so I am communicating this information this way. Ron Bonds, who ran IllumiNet Press, died last April under very strange circumstances. I think it's important that he be given credit for getting this book out, along with the many other books he published, particularly those written by my friend and writing partner Jim Keith, who also died under strange circumstances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading, November 30, 2003
By
This review is from: Maury Island UFO: The Crisman Conspiracy (Paperback)
Sifting through the dust and slag of a peculiar historical event--and turning up new gems of information--is just what author/researcher Kenn Thomas has always possessed a certain instinctive knack for.

With Maury Island UFO: The Crisman Conspiracy, Thomas has once again added new perspective to a tale that has been retold many times by UFO investigators, though the dangling threads have never quite been pieced together, and conclusively sewn shut. (But what UFO case ever is?) This is not to suggest that Thomas has tied everything together at last, and arrived at a final answer to the mystery of what went down at Maury Island; first with the slippery sightings of Harold Dahl and Fred Crisman, then later during Kenneth Arnold's investigation of the case, when the Men In Black apparently reared their finely attired heads, along with Air Force Intelligence and other assorted spooks and hobgoblins.

What Thomas has done, though, is a very thorough research job outlining Crisman's involvement in the Maury Island affair, and how this all connects--oddly enough--to the JFK assassination dance party, and ultimately Danny Casolaros' Octopus. At first glance, one might consider such connections as these the ravings of some half-cocked "conspiracy nut", but Thomas' research is so extensive and exhaustive that one is left with enough evidence to draw their own conclusions as to just what type of mischief the enigmatic Mr. Crisman was up to. Now, how many people do you know who have seen a UFO, collected remnants of same, and were also involved (allegedly) in the Kennedy assassination? (Not to mention battling Deros in subterranean caverns?) Well, Fred Crisman very well might have achieved all of the above, along with a lot of other strange undertakings during the course of his colorful career.

Although the evidence contained in Maury Island UFO is not conclusive by any means, after reading this book one can not deny that Crisman was as equally mercurial as other figures linked to the Kennedy assassination--from David Ferrie to Kerry Thornley--among a whole host of other spooks and bit players who lurked in and out of the shadows of Dealey Plaza and similar strangely infested environs, such as Maury Island, the home of the first modern UFO case, that may very well have been a disinformation hoax at the hands of Mr. Fred Lee Crisman.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Volume Entertainingly Details a Mystery Revealed., August 26, 1999
This review is from: Maury Island UFO: The Crisman Conspiracy (Paperback)
Facts are hard to dispute. So despite how people may wish to have them "go away," this book gives detailed data showing that the intelligence network history from Maury Island of the early "flying saucer" era to the New Orleans of the JFK hit and Guy Bannister are linked. An enjoyable, recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Eight Year Old Son Was Mucho Impressed, August 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Maury Island UFO: The Crisman Conspiracy (Paperback)
I was picking through this book, one of Kenn Thomas' typically pithy works (his hallmark is extensive citations of primary materials), getting typically perturbed at many of the covert shenanigans performed by various government (and other) entities. I put the book down, and an hour later came back to find my eight year old son had picked it up and was totally engrossed in it. His eyes were big when he looked up and said in a very serious voice, "Dad, this book is GREAT!" I said, "yes, it is son, yes it is ..."

1.0 out of 5 stars Puh-leeze, June 24, 2004

I picked up this disjointed piece of dreck at the local library booksale. (If nobody checks out a book for more than two or three years, they don't keep it. Now I know why.) Turns out it was a total waste of my 25 cents. Mr. Thomas "uncovers" conspiratorial "connections" which would only be plausible to an intellectually-challenged, unmedicated paranoid schizophrenic. See, the Gubbament doesn't want you to know about Stuff, see, and so they like, brainwash people and stuff, see ... it's a fact! Puh-leeze, the X-files was fiction there, bubba. It is illuminating to note that two of the 5-star reviews for this windy and disjointed diatribe are by the author himself, and another touts how utterly engrossing it was for an eight-year-old. Ahem. In short, if you are in need of kindling, I heartily recommend you check out this author's other vanity press works. And K-k-k-ken(n), better kept your curtains closed, 'cause THEY'RE WATCHING!!! Ooooooo, scary!
