3.0 out of 5 stars Better than nothing, not as good as Walsh
I bought many Mausers and tried to sporterize them. Using Keunhausen's book was frustrating because there is informantion there, it is just hard to find. The problems with the book: 1) No clear table of contents 2) Contantly changes the subject only to return later 3) recomends heat treatment after many steps [mistake] 4) recoments recomends milling corroded bolt face...

Much better is the book "Mauser M98 & M96 How to build your favorite custom rifle" by R. A. Walsh

4.0 out of 5 stars the book, January 4, 2001
By A Customer
read the book. it was very good. you must understand that you have to read the book first then apply the knowledge. although it does jump around you must understand it is not a step by step build a custom mauser book. but rather understand and know the rifle first, then buy a book which gives you ideas on how you want your mauser to be. it does not give custom stocks and actions and other stuff. that is up to the person and imagination.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a rare book!!, May 12, 2010
This book is readily available, NEW, from any number of sellers (like Midway USA) for approx. $30--no reason to treat it like the Guttenberg Bible.
The book itself is very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for home or gunsmith repair, April 8, 2010

This review is from: The Mauser Bolt Actions M91 Through M98: A Shop Manual (Paperback)
If you own an old Mauser rifle, a few simple tools and this book, you can home-repair most problems with the rifle. Via numerous photos this book also allows you to determine exactly what model Mauser you own. In my case, it showed me that the misfitted trigger guard assembly on my M93 came on a M96 and had been jury-rigged to somewhat fit a M93. That one thing more than paid for this book.

I bought this as a gift for my dad, who loves history and guns, and who is a gunsmith. He told me he loves it and uses it all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for Mauser 91/98 owners - still in print and only $32, September 5, 2011
By
The information and illustrations in this book are top notch. This book has some of the most complete information on maintaining the Mauser 91 and 98 bolt action series of rifles found anywhere. You will not regret owning this book.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!! Like the all the other books in the Kuhnhausen series of shop manuals, this book is still in print by by the original publisher Heritage Gun Books and they are sold at reasonable prices from $29 to $45 each depending on the book.

Do not be ripped off by scammers selling the books as rare or out of print!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mauser M91 through M98 Bolt Actions: A Shop Manual, October 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is THE definitive shop manual for Mauser rifles from 1891 to 1898. It is well-written, well-illustrated and well worth every penny I paid for it. I could not have asked for a more thorough coverage of the subject matter. If you own a Mauser from this time period, then you owe it to yourself to get a copy and protect it from your fellow gun enthusiasts who may lust for it. Tell them to buy their own. They won't be disappointed.
