More About the Author

A Waldenbooks best-selling author, two-time RITA nominee, Romantic Times Reviewers Choice nominee, and National Readers' Choice Award Winner Rhonda Nelson writes hot romantic comedy for Harlequin Blaze and other Harlequin imprints. With more than thirty-five published books to her credit and many more coming down the pike, she's thrilled with her career and enjoys dreaming up her characters and manipulating the worlds they live in. In addition to a writing career she has a husband, two adorable kids, a Black Lab, and a beautiful Bichon Frise who dogs her every step and who frequently cocks his head in utter bewilderment at his master. (Rhonda often affects people like this.) She and her family make their chaotic but happy home in a small town in northern Alabama.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy witty dialogue and deliciously hot love scenes ....., November 3, 2007
The Maverick by Rhonda Nelson
Harlequin Blaze # 283 - October 2006
Men Out of Uniform trilogy - Book 3

Ex-Ranger Guy McCann has been called back to Fort Benning to fulfill the favour he owes General Garrett. Back on Base is that last place Guy wants to be, but the General needs his help in order to hang on to his post and avoid being pushed into retirement. Guy was in Command of his former elite unit, and the General needs him to help in the training of the team that will replace his on those most dangerous and covert missions. The success of Guy's team had been the unconditional trust of the members. This is what Guy's been asked to help build in the new team. There's a hitch of course, in that Guy has a co-instructor. Julia Beckham is a relationship therapist and has a very successful private practice. As a way to repay the General for saving her father's life in Viet Nam, Julia's agreed to help build strong bonds in the General's new team. Julia has a private agenda too; she's looking for a bada*s bad boy to teach her a few tricks in the sack. After an embarrassing breakup with her boyfriend and being told she's terrible at sex, Julia's self-esteem has taken a jolt. Sexy bada*s Maverick McCann seems to be the baby-I-can-rock-your-world hottie she needs to teach her those tricks. Guy can't believe that any man would be such a moron as to dump Julia. He tells her that she's been having sex with the wrong men, as she's hot and he's willing to sleep with her to prove it.

This was a very fast and fun read. In her decision to find herself a bada*s bad boy, Julia has found a gold mine in Guy. He's filled with self-confidence and knows all the right things to say and do to prove to Julia that she is indeed perfect in his eyes. This was a fun conclusion to the trilogy. It was nice to be reintroduced to Jamie and Ashley, and Payne and Emma, and for the General to finally admit his hidden matchmaking schemes. I think this one is best read with the other two in the trilogy; on it's own it is a little weak in plot. Ms. Nelson has her own brand of sexy witty dialogue and deliciously hot love scenes that make her talents stand out. A book by Ms. Nelson is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nobody Does It Better, July 16, 2008

Rhonda Nelson does it again! After reading her deliciously sexy The Loner a few months ago, I've managed to track down and read most of Nelson's books, and tackling the Maverick was a sheer delight!

Yet another one of Colonel Carl Garrett's Army Rangers who owe him a favor in exchange for their release from the service after the tragic death of thier fellow Ranger, Guy McCann is called back into service to train a new batch of potential Rangers. Only one snag. McCann will be teaching the class with Julia Beckham (who also owes the Colonel a favor). Blindsided by this little piece of information -- not to mention his instant attraction to the tightly-wound hottie -- McCann is left fighting his reservations about returning to the service, his grudge against another potential Ranger who constantly gets in his face, and his intense attraction for Julia.

Julia, on the other hand, is experiencing some hot flashes of her own -- pretty remarkable for her, she figures, since several of her boyfriends have labeled her "boring in bed." That just adds insult to injury, especially since she was raised by a mother obessed with physical beauty and perfection.

Julia would love nothing more than to prove them wrong and prove to herself she's not the cold fish she fears herself to be. So when Guy McCann let's her know there's not a darn thing wrong -- or unattractive --with her and offers to prove it, Julia takes him up on his offer.

Of course Guy is right. Julia's a firecracker (in and out of the sack) and he's disgusted that the exes in her past have made her doubt herself. She's hot. He's in lust. And the two set the bedroom... er... classroom desk on fire!

But trouble looms as Julia's therapist side emerges and she tries to help Guy cope with his guilt over Danny's death the way he's helped her deal with her issues. The question is can Guy let go of his past pain to embrace a future?

Nelson weaves another winning tale with The Maverick, again bringing together two characters who fit perfectly in every way, admire the strengths and weaknesses of the other, and whose attraction always speaks of a deeper connection.

The Maverick is definitely a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, February 13, 2007
I've loved all of Ms. Nelson's Men Out of Uniform books and this one is no exception. Loved the characters and the interaction between them. Great dialogue, great characters, and hot love scenes make this, like all the other Men Out of Uniform books, a keeper!
