Starting the grill doesn't have to be a messy, toxic experience-not when you have the Maverick Electric Charcoal Lighter. It's fast, safe, and pollution-free, no starter fluid necessary. To use, place charcoal or briquettes in a layer in your grill, place lighter on top, being careful to keep the handle well outside the fire area. Layer more charcoal in a pyramid on top of the element. Plug in the starter, and in 8 minutes. After the allotted 8 minutes, unplug the starter and remove from the fire; your briquettes will be ready to spread evenly to form a bed of coals. A great alternative to the messy, nauseating fumes and flavors associated with starter fluid. Your taste-buds will appreciate the difference.

Handy lighter, not very durable, though,

Great for hassle free lighting charcoal. Unfortunately, they burn out after 3-4 months of continued use (twice a week, every week).
If you keep bbq use down to twice a month, it should last over a year.
