This product is great for spit roasting. Instead of having to time a prime rib roast or continually check it with a thermometer for internal temp, the remote readout gives you an accurate reading.
The only drawback I found is that the alarm goes off about 3 degrees above set point which is easily corrected by dropping the setpoint 3 degrees. Good rig. Use it lots. Mitch

Will not work with any Weber Genesis or Summit grill,

I diligently checked both the Maverick website and the ET75 owner's manual for this product prior to ordering to see if it would work with my Weber Summit grill. Both sources were scant of this type of information, but I ordered it anyway because I love the idea behind this product.
Once I brought the parts out to my grill, it was obvious that it not work without cutting/grinding out the "U" slot in the cast iron grill box where the spit rotates. I've also owned a Weber Genesis and know the same "U" slot exists. My biggest problem is that there is no documentation that this product WILL NOT WORK on Weber grills, one of the most popular consumer grills on the market. The merchant (PC Universe) charges an 18% restocking+shipping fee for opened items and I had to open the ET-75 just to see if it would work. UPDATE: PC Universe has contacted me and made it clear that they would "exceed my expectations" on customer satisfaction. I assume this means they would wave the 18% restocking+shipping fee, so I am satisfied with PC Universe. I still have a big problem with the product documentation. It should either list the grills it will/won't work with OR the specs of the "U" slot and spit diameter it works with.

Poor customer support,

I have a Lynx grill and had to modify my grill as well as make a new collar to allow this thermometer to work. Then I found that the indicated temp was way off in comparison with an instant read and another probe thermometer. The manual attributes this to the sensor wire so I returned the wire to Maverick per the manual. A month later they have not sent me a new wire nor have they responded to multiple voice mails and e-mails. Seems like I have a useless toy now; I'll just use an old reliable roast thermometer. Stay away from these guys.

this thermometer works poorly at best. We have one and cant get more than 10 ft from the sender returned it to the manufacturer and got a full replacement it also cant go more than 10 steps from the sender so for us its of no use i figured the house was 35 ft away and the unit says 100 ft range but we cant get to the door. what ever the reason is we are not pleased with its range.

I'll start my review with five stars, because if this unit works as advertized it should be nothing short of AWESOME.
Being an avid griller with a new rotisserie, I really got excited when I found the Maverick remote Rotisserie unit - and I couldn't wait for it to arrive. Imagine my disappointment when I realized that neither of the two collars supplied with the unit would work with my grill, which is a new Weber Genesis. Considering the market share that Weber currently enjoys, I'd think it would be a priority for Maverick that their product would work with the most popular and widely used grills - but I guess not. I could see that both collars were too large to fit in the rotisserie "receiver" built into my grill cabinet - and my obvious, but cringe-worthy solution was to take after my brand new grill with a drill and enlarge the hole to fit the Maverick collar. Before taking this drastic action, I contacted Customer Service at Maverick and received a prompt and courteous reply the next day... yah, just drill out a bigger hole on your new grill. Minus one star. OK, well I've had this unit for over a month now, but I haven't been willing to go after my grill with a drill just yet - but I have used the digital probe thermometer and tested out the remote capabilities. After installing the supplied batteries and getting the unit up and sending, I poured a glass of water and checked the temperature readings against a few of my other non-remote digital probe thermometers (yah, I'm geeky that way) and found that the temperature of the Maverick seemed to be in agreement with the others. Plus one star. I inserted the probe into a tri-tip roast that had been resting on the counter top for several hours and got a reading in the low 60s. Believable. After grilling on one side for about 30 minutes, the temp had come up to the high 90s and it was time to flip. Upon turning the roast over, the thermometer seemed to stall out - rising only about a degree and a half over the next 20 minutes. What the heck??? Well, I pre-heated the grill on High and then turned it down to med-low before putting the roast on to begin with, so maybe most of the heat transfer came from the grates to begin with? Anyhow, I turned the grill up to medium and kept watching. Now, I should talk a little bit about the set-up here. On my first attempt at "remote" grilling, I have the sending unit and the receiver approximately 25' apart, line of sight, but with a sliding glass door between them. OK, back to the show... so after another 15 or so minutes and the temperature totally stalling out on the receiver, I picked it up and took it over to the grill to inspect my roast - w |
