Editorial Reviews

Review

"If you have never been to Bermuda, then first study this book. . . The photographs are equal to the five-star text." -- Velma Daniels, News Chief, Winter Haven News, Florida, June 6, 2004

Good all-around guide to what to expect on a vacation in Bermuda. There is a good section on what to know before you leave home, information on private house and apartment rentals, tips for finding package deals, basics on the currency and even a quick guide to how to get married there.

In the Getting Around section there are tips on using the buses, ferries, renting scooters and mopeds, taking a non-track train and the basics of horse and carriage rides.

Part of the book is arranged by geography, including sections on the City of Hamilton, the South Shore, the West End and the East End.

There is a list of local radio stations, suggestions of nature trails to hike, and a rundown on the sports scene in general, from harness racing to squash. -- Daily Herald, Chicago

I really liked this guide; it was highly informative, easy to read, and has a lot of useful maps. -- Black Issues Book Review Magazine, Beach Bag by K.M. Westbrook

From the Author

I wrote this guide after living in Bermuda and realizing there is another side that visitors need to know about. And, if you wish to save money (and who doesn't?), then this book is for you, as I have included everything I wrote in my first book, Bermuda on a Budget (which Pelican Publishing asked me to turn into one of their successful Maverick guides.

Most travel guide books are written by a group of writers who visit the destination for a week or two. I have spent seven years in Bermuda and know every hotel, restaurant, beach, park and historic property, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ONLY Book You Need, June 9, 2000
I am in my 16th year in Bermuda and consequently have read dozens of books about Bermuda. This one is it. Anyone asking for information on this country will receive my highest recommendation for this extensively researched work. The scope and detail, the double cover map, and the easy reading style provide an invaluable resource for not only tourists but new residents and locals as well. Every Bermudian home should have this book on hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Directed us to delightful places not in any other guide book, December 31, 2004

After taking a tour at the Botanical Gardens, we followed Ms. Harriott's recommedation and ate at the hospital cafe across the street. And who did we see but our tour guide from the gardens. Boy, was he surprised to see us! How did we ever find out about this place?? The Maverick Guide, of course. The fish cakes are delicious, by the way. This book is a great way to get to out-of-the way places and a real flavor of Bermuda. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Tourists, Bermudians AND Travel Agents!, July 30, 2004
This review is from: Maverick Guide to Bermuda, Second Edition (Maverick Guide Series) (Paperback)
This book is incredible; Ms. Harriott obviously knows Bermuda extremely well and has checked and re-checked her information. As someone specializing in helpling people plan their Bermuda vacations I constantly use the book as a resource. It has been invaluable to me.

As far as the slight error mentioned in another review I don't think there is a soul out there that doesn't know September 11th as the date our world crashed down. It was obviously an editorial mistake!
