Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The 220-watt electric engine on this food grinder handles tough meats with ease. Just as quickly, it chop nuts, cheese, fruits, and vegetables; hook up the sausage attachment and you're making your own breakfast links, boudin, and more. The machine is easy to assemble and contains two interchangeable die for coarse or fine cuts. The directions include a practical set of hints for best use. To clean it, hand wash and thoroughly dry all removable parts--they are not dishwasher-safe. --Leah Kohlenberg

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough power, December 18, 2000

I bought the Maverick grinder and tried it out. I had a hard time with most meat because of lack of power. It jammed over and over again. I had to take it apart to remove everything. What a mess. I bought the Villaware unit from another retailer with 320 watts (100 more than the Maverick) and a reverse switch. It (was the same price). Wow. What a difference. This unit seemed to have twice the power of the Maverick. There is nothing this thing can't handle and no more jamming. If it does I just hit the reverse switch and no more jammin'.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great grinder!, April 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Maverick MM6386 Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
Before buying the Maverick grinder, I read the other reviews and was scared into buying the 320 watt Villaware grinder that another reviewer recommended. BIG MISTAKE!! Using the Villaware grinder for making raw cat food (ground chicken with organs and bones)was a nightmare because of a design flaw. I couldn't even grind plain old chicken meat without having to disassemble the unit literally every 30 seconds to clear out stringy clogs. The reverse switch feature was of no use whatsoever. After several frustrating attempts to use the Villaware grinder, I took the advice of several people and bought the Maverick. What a joy to work with! Grinding chicken bones is no problem and it takes me a quarter of the time to make 2 lbs of cat food than it did when using that lousy Villaware, and I get a far superior end product.

The take away message from my experience: it will take me a lot of effort, time and money to find out if I got a lemon or if the Villaware has a true design flaw. Wattage isn't everything. Learn from my costly mistake and GET THIS GRINDER.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Grinder, April 30, 2002

I bought this grinder many years ago when it was made by Villaware. I make cat food for my numerous cats (I'm a breeder) and it has held up to grinding hundreds of pounds of chicken or rabbit meat with bone. I recommend this grinder to anyone thinking of making their own cat or dog food...
