Their marriage began as a trap...,
By Rebekah Martin (MI,USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Maverick (Men of the Saddle #3) (Paperback)
It seems that every time Cass Claxton and Susanne McCord meet, tempers clash and trouble ensues. When Cass refuses to take her to an aunt's house in Saint Louis, Susanne resorts to trickery. Claiming that Cass has ruined her, her father forces Cass to marry Susanne despite his protests of innocence. Furious, Cass takes her to Saint Louis and leaves, assuming she would quickly have the marriage annulled. Unfortunately, Susanne believed that he would be taking care of that.Six year later, Cass and Susanne meet again. Susanne has taken charge of the nine children her aunt took care of in her orphanage. When her aunt dies and the house is taken away from her, Susanne finds that she needs the help of Cass. When the two discover that they are still married to each other, she agrees to sign the annulment papers in exchange for him to escort her and the children to Kansas, where her father lived. But what neither expects is that their journey might lead both to have a change of heart. I loved reading this third book in the Men of the Saddle series. The Maverick is just as good a book as the previous two, which I also highly recommend. As usually, Lori Copeland has created an excellent novel with well developed characters and the right combination or romance and humor that you are sure to enjoy reading.

Lori Copeland once again writes a book that will keep your attention from beginning to end. Cass and Suzanne will keep you spellbound trying to guess what will happen next. It is a fast paced book that I thoroughly enjoyed and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

A good story about the power of forgiveness.,

I enjoyed this third book of the Men of the Saddle series but not as much as the first book. I thought the hero and heroine fought a bit too much (IMO). But other than that I don't have any major complaints. Lori's books are well written with natural conversations. I will definitely read more by her.

When reading the first two books in this Men Of The Saddle series,I have to say that Cass was my least favorite of the brothers, and I really couldn't stand Susanne when we meet her in book#2!I actually was expecting to dislike this book intensely, but to the author's credit, this was a 5-star read for me! After a beginning where I believed Susanne could have changed so much due to her wonderful aunt, about as little as Cass believed it,I came to really admire, and like and even feel sorry for Susanne.I also came to love Cass, but believe me,it was one ROCKY road coming to those feelings, and lots of friction and verbal sparring between the two of them. This book takes you on an emotional roller-coaster ride, but it is so worth it,and really ends beautifully. If you enjoy historical romances that can really make you 'feel' then I highly recommend the 'Men Of The Saddle "series.

I liked this book for the most part, but I came away shaking my head. How could a Christian book be about a girl who lies and deceives her way into Cass' heart? Her "change" just doesn't seem plausible to me. Susanne is going to do whatever it takes to get what she wants.

thoroughly enjoyable,

The Maverick is an excellent addition to The Men of the Saddle series. Cass Claxton, the bad boy of the Claxton brothers, has met his match. He's on his way home from visiting with brother Beau and sister-in-law Charity when four horsemen approach. One of the riders is Susanne McCord, who has to be one of the most infuriating women he's ever met. To his surprise they block his way. That's when Cass learns he's falsly accused of taking advantage of Susanne, when we wouldn't touch the woman with a fence post. Now he's the guest of honor at a shotgun wedding.Cass is furious, but the sherif holds the shotgun, and so he marries the lying coniving, sorry excuse of a female. As soon as the preacher, the sheriff, and the father of the bride ride away, Susanne cheerfully admits she lied, but she promises to have the wedding annulled the moment she reaches her aunt's home in St. Louis. But can a woman who lied once be trusted? The Maverick is another fun packed story of love and misadventure. Lori Copeland always leaves the reader hungery for more.

The third book in the series...,
This review is from: The Maverick (Men of the Saddle #3) (Paperback)
This book was just as great as the first two in the Men of the Saddle series. I just got the four book from the library on Friday and I am on the fourth one already and it's only Monday. What can I say! The Claxton brothers make you want to sell everything and move out to Kansas!! I have enjoyed these books a great deal! The characters are great as are the story lines. If you want a great series to read, Men of the Saddle is it!!

To tame a maverick...,
This review is from: The Maverick (Men of the Saddle #3) (Paperback)
Having read about Cass Claxton in The Peacemaker, I had looked forward to reading his story. He is, after all, the bad boy of the Claxton men and thought his novel would be the most interesting in the series. Well... it is definitely interesting, but not in the same way I thought it would be. Class Claxton and Susanne McCord have a long history together. He was tricked into marrying her years ago when Cass refused to take her to see her aunt in Saint Louis. Cass thought Susanne would arrange an annulment once he took her to Saint Louis and all would be over between them. How wrong he was! Six years later, they meet again and discover that they are still married. They both thought that the other would be the one to annul the marriage, but neither of them did. When Cass asks for an annulment, Susanne agrees, but on one condition. When Susanne's aunt dies, she leaves Susanne in charge of nine orphan children her aunt looked after. Susanne wants Cass to take her and the children back to Kansas. Then and only then would she agree to an annulment, but would they want to separate once they spend time together? There are some twists throughout the novel. The maverick Cass has met his perfect match with the spirited, scheming Susanne. They are at each other's throat throughout the novel. There are some wallbanging moments in the story because the protagonists got on my nerves at times. However, it was a treat to see Cass being outsmarted by the heroine. He was very unsympathetic in The Peacemaker and I'm glad I get to read about his struggles with a woman in his book. I got something different from what I thought I'd get from this installment. I thought Cass would somehow be a worse person than he turned out to be here. I guess I thought this because of the way Wynne Elliot (heroine in The Peacemaker) spoke about him. But he is a very appealing hero and not the cad I expected and I enjoyed him a great deal. The heroine, though annoying at times, is a real treat. She really gives Cass a hard time in this novel and I laughed on many occasions. The Maverick is another fun, uplifting installment in the Men of the Saddle series and I look forward to reading The Plainsmen.

An old story rewritten for the Christian market,
By Suzanne (Leesburg, VA) - See all my reviews

This took no effort at all on the author's part. This book was written years ago for the secular market, "Christianized," and resold. A total ripoff.
